Wanted: replacement radio for XM

Post by white exec »

Can anyone help with a replacement radio for our Series 2 XM?

There's been a bad joint or crack for some time on the radio's main pcb, preventing powering-up, and it is now beyond repair.
XM2 radio.jpg
It's a Philips 22 DC 594/35X, capable of operating a Philips RC026 6-CD autochanger.
Other markings on the radio case are:
Citroen 96 237 752 80 01
PHB6007109
- although other model variations could work, if they can pair up with the Philips autochanger.

Could be the same as was fitted to Xantia of the same/similar year (1996).

If anyone has one of these they're happy to sell, and is working, I'd be interested.

If the unit you have powers up, but has no code, then this link will enable an immediate code to be obtained by inputting the radio's serial number*:
https://www.radio-code.co.uk/
Using the serial number from my duff unit, the correct code for it came back immediately.
Cost was £8.99 incl VAT.

*Required 14-digit Serial number was not on a label, but engraved on the unit's side (black cheek) and was this on mine:
PHACBFT6007109.

Happy to agree a cost, including the code cost above (if needed) and everything else.

You have been PM'd - that'll teach you! [-X

There's been some short-circuit damage to the pcb, hence the quest to find a working replacement.
Hopefully someone might have one lurking... :)

The Xantia of 93-97 used a Blaupunkt audio system which is not compatible with the Philips changer, 98 - 99 they used a Clarion (also not compatible). The 2000 Xantia did have a Philips system, but a later generation and I am not sure about compatibility. The Xantia also used a non-din-standard face place which would be awkward to fit into an XM.

Thanks for that info, Mike. That narrows the search somewhat.
For that reason I included a photo of the unit front.

Hmmmm! Been thinking about a more appropriate stereo for the C15 & how contemporary OE one would be nice. That one seems to tick all the boxes, sooooooh, if you get offered more than one, I'd be interested.

One would be nice!
I think my next move might be to tour the Malaga scrapyards: at least the dozen or so of them are all in the same industrial street!
Scoured the web for one, but nix. A replacement the same would be good, in order to control the OE CD-changer.
Might have to sell my soul, and go for one of the less-psychedelic looking ones, such as JVC's new KD-R992BT, which is on Amazon. Single CD only, though, but that would be acceptable.

Or dump them onto a USB stick and get a payer you can plug a USB stick into... Sony seem to make some good ones... Both my Pixo and Ka have such heads; the Pioneer in my Saxo is also good too but not quite so easy to 'drive' as the Sony heads...

Sony have the advantage, for me at least, of being very intuitive and easy to use. The downside is that they are all rather garish in appearance in an older car.

Since I have had such a device in three of my cars it's been a revelation...

On the Sony in the Pixo selecting TP/TA for traffic announcements seamlessly interrupts anything playing via USB stick and the other big advantage is that play from a USB stick seamlessly recommences between trips in the car; no need fiddle with the 'phone or other MP3 player to resume listening again after a stop...

I still use cassettes at home and two of my cars have cassette players...

I like my cassettes...

Just bought a whole load of NOS C60 cassettes still in their shrink-wrap for a very small outlay...

I know where there's an XM series 2 estate going to the scrappies next week. I know it's still got it's original cassette player in, but don't know which one. Will have to check and get back to you.
