Cut out issues at 3k revs - C4 Picasso 1.6 HDi
Last year (April) I cleaned out the EGR valve which was particularly gunked up, I put it all back together but forgot to plug it in, several months later (last week) the MOT tester noticed and plugged it in the lights went out after a while, for the last couple of months when driving in 2nd or 3rd gear the rev counter gets to 3k the engine cuts out and I cannot drive, I roll to a stop and then the car stalls, it restarts fine but then I have many bleeps and lights going at me, I am thinking it could be the EGR valve or possible the diesel dpf exhaust pressure sensor ????

Simple answer is you need to get it hooked up to a Lexia / Diagbox otherwise you will be guessing. With these cars, there are so many inter-dependent systems that you may find the obvious suspect is not at all the cause. A Lexia will diagnose it and provide you with the fault codes to assist in tying the problem down. If we have these codes we may be able to help further. Also, don't overly rely on a generic code reader - they can only give limited information and are not very good on bespoke manufacturer's codes.
The symptons you explain are typical of the engine management system putting the car into degraded mode until the issue with the depollution system or other fault is cleared - it does this to prevent either damage to the system or to limit emissions until the fault is rectified.

Do you have a VIN (PM it to me if you don't want to post it here) - so I can see the exact model and specs you have.

Not received anything as yet. I will PM you so that you can reply to that - as if the username is now spelled correctly it can cause issues.

Re: Cut out issues at 3k revs - C4 Picasso 1.6 HDi
Ok, so this is a C4 PICASSO ESTATE - LEISURE 1.6 HDi 110 particle emission filter (DV6TED4).
In the absence of the VIN, I've put together some of the fault codes - hwoever these have slightly differnt causes and descriptions depending on the engine type and ECU. P2143 is the priority - and the others will likely be as a result. So you either have an electrical short, the EGR connector is not properly secure (check pins are tight) or it is faulty or the supply voltage. Again - it depends on teh engine yoe and ECU - but I think you can see where they are likely to point. But it willr emain in limp home mode until the fault is corrected.
(*) Consequence for the parameter measurements:
Electric EGR valve control OCR = 0 %
Position repeat = 0 %
(**) 1 Starting cycles :
Engine start
Engine cut-off
Wait for the instrument panel to switch off
Engine ECU BOSCH EDC16C34
Engine ECU BOSCH EDC16C34

Fault Code | P0405 |
After sales description of the fault code | Electric EGR valve repeat signal fault: Copy voltage too low |
Main customer complaints likely | The engine ECU cuts the regulating of the EGR (*). The electric EGR valve auto-programming operations are no longer carried out. |
Conditions for returning of the fault | When the valve is controlled : The fault codes are returned immediately in the engine management ECU. The diagnostic warning light only comes on and switches off after 3 engine starting cycles (**). |
Suspect areas / Faulty components | Engine ECU 5V shared supply. Electrical harness. Electric exhaust gas recycling valve. |
Appropriate tools | Adaptor harnesses. Multimeter. Controlled terminal box (in manual mode) or manual terminal box. |
Electric EGR valve control OCR = 0 %
Position repeat = 0 %
(**) 1 Starting cycles :
Engine start
Engine cut-off
Wait for the instrument panel to switch off
Engine ECU BOSCH EDC16C34
Fault Code | P1351 |
After sales description of the fault code | Pre-heating relay circuit: Coherence; Relay supplied and glow plugs not supplied |
Description of the diagnostics | The information from the preheating control unit indicates that the relay is open even though the ECU commands the closing of the relay for 2 seconds |
Main customer complaints likely | Lack of power Noise Jerking/stalling Starting problem |
Suspect areas | Pre-heater plug Electrical harness Pre/post heating relay |
Fault Code | P2143 |
After sales description of the fault code | Exhaust gas recycling electric valve control : Open circuit |
Description of the diagnostics | Open circuit for 200 ms |
Down-grade modes if fault present | Deactivation of flowmeter plausibility faults. The ECU stops the regulation of the EGR valve. The ECU stops the regulation of the EGR butterfly. The ECU cuts the regulation of the by-pass meter. Deactivation of the initialisations of the EGR valve. |
Main customer complaints likely | Lack of power. Engine hesitating, cutting out |
Suspect areas | Exhaust gas recycling valve. Electrical harness. Connector. |

Re: Cut out issues at 3k revs - C4 Picasso 1.6 HDi
I've updated the above in light of the VIN (Engine DV6TED4). So faulty valve / connection, short or supply voltage seems the likely culprit. Only P0405 needed changing.

Did it not bring the engine management light on when you forgot to plug it in ??
Remember that those fault codes would be logged when the EGR was left disconnected. Clear the fault codes then run it till the fault happens again then re read fault codes so we know they are fresh fault codes.

okay I swapped the EGR valve and changed the pressure sensor and all the lights have gone out except the word SERVICE in orange, it drives ok but I am a bit nervous to drive it hard incase the problem comes back.
thanks for your help guys

Great that that part is sorted - the fault may go after 3 starting / driving / engine off cycles. If not I would just get it hooked up to Lexia for a fault clearing and re-reading to be sure.

Re: Cut out issues at 3k revs - C4 Picasso 1.6 HDi
Hi Guys (marc)
SORTED car was booked in for a inspection and I was looking though the service history and noticed the fuel filter hadn't been changed for the last couple of years, so I got one and did it in 15mins and was all working fine after that, revs as normal and no cut out, no lights come on either now.

Excellent - thanks for feeding that back John - and I've just realised that anyone reading this won't know what vehicle this relates to, so I'm going to edit the title of the topic to fix that. Good news again.
