Visiting old ground R/O/S brake binding

Post by KennyW »

Hi All,

Same problem again with back brake it appears to be binding but worse than last year.

Suggestion from mechanic the sliding pin maybe catching on corrosion on within caliper

Anybody had similar problems and what resolved the issue.

The C5 MKI can also suffer from that weird calliper corrosion (but I do not know if later versions are). When I get my C5 callipers sorted out I will be asking the garage to insert some gasket paper between the calliper and trailing arm.

I would suggest the correct silicone grease on the slide and then pack the rubber boots either side of slide with red rubber grease ( check rubber boots or renew) From my motorbike days, I found that the silicone slide grease was the only thing to resist the salt and stop seizing.

When I had this problem with my Mk1 C5, I used 'Hylomar Blue', non setting high temp jointing compound and never had the problem again.

Worried now though

Well, mechanic friend is going check exactly what is causing the caliper to bind.
He has got another caliper ready, will check electric handbrake and caliper.
Hope it's caliper not handbrake.
Caliper £145 hand brake £914 ouch.
Bill knows a mechanic who is a citroen specialist and is going to do the timing belt for £80-100. I've supplied the parts as crackshaft bolt is playing silly b***ers and not budging.

Stu apart for the above there have been no problems with X 7.

She is joy to drive on long trips and is at its best when doing so.

I'll let the forum know the diagnosis.

Kenny

PS does anyone know the price from Peugeot dealer for R/O/S caliper Part no 4400V6 £135 R.P. 16 109 010 80 £264 8-[

Problem solved, it was a sticky piston in the caliper.

I do recall the piston was difficult to rewind into the caliper when I changed the pads.

Yes mine has been virtually trouble free too, apart from:-
  • Auto-box not changing up (which turned out to be a different manufacturer tyres on the same axle!)
  • Steering rack leaking at 55,000 miles (ish)
  • Original battery going at 60,000 miles(6 years), this could have been the same with any car
Mine too is still nice to drive, quiet, smooth, predictable, comfy & over 40 mpg :-D
