Xsara Picasso gearbox

Post by Z1ggy1987 »

Hi, I am in need of a replacement gearbox for my car and I’m not sure what gearbox code I need to be looking out for, I have done some research and found out I think need the 20dp29 but what else will fit my car, I was told by a scrap part dealer that most of them Will fit my car.

My car is 2007 Xsara Picasso 1.6 hdi 92bhp.

Please help!!!

Hi Andy
Andy-Xsara-Picasso-Engine.png
The Part number for the new Gearbox is 2222 QS
The Part number for the exchange Gearbox is 2223 ZF

I've used both as this may help when searching for a replacement. These are the genuine Citroen Part numbers for your vehicle.

Thanks for the information, is that only from Citroen?
I’m thinking of just going to the scrap yard and picking one up.

Andy, these are the part numbers from Citroen - but these are also used if searching a breakers - so you can ensure you get the right Gearbox. I'm not suggesting you get it from Citroen - but having the correct part numbers will ensure you have the right variation.

i.e.
https://www.proxyparts.com/car-parts-st ... id/971035/
https://bartebben.com/parts/citroen/xsa ... 0dp2j.html
https://www.autoricambiservice.com/orga ... 6000_87433

The Gearbox should also have the following marking on it:

CP 19X72
DPB9, DP29 or DP2J

Thanks, most of the gearboxes i has enquired about are 20DP29, this seems to be the only information that I am getting when ringing around.

A Citroen breakers told me that most boxes fit and offered me a DP27 and said that would fit, I presume this would not be the case?

Really appreciate the help

All I can tell you is that these are the official markings and parts Andy - I suspect some will likely try and flog you what they can without being 100% certain. DP27 is NOT one of the markings for this model. You could use a online parts search like these:
http://www.partsgateway.co.uk/parts/enquiry
Just use your reg - and then enter one of the part numbers I supplied you - they'll do a search and email you details. You can then check against the info I posted.

If I find a gear box with the markings DP29 should that be good enough? Especially if it has come from the Xsara Picasso 1.6hdi.

What does the 20 mean when they put 20DP29

Andy - it is very important you get the correct one as the DP setting refers to the Diametral Pitch - a ratio equal to the pitch diameter of a gear in inches divided by the number of teeth in the gear. If this isn't correct it could well have an adverse effect.

Hi Steve, would be happy to help you if you can't locate the info already - but as we are charged for parts info from Citroen, we do require a membership upgrade for current parts, prices and parts diagrams. This will cover you for other parts requests for up to 2 years though - so excellent value.

Details and links are in the table below if you want to go ahead, then just pop your VIN up after you are done (it will be automatically masked when you submit your post). I'll keep an eye out.
A response to your question by a Forum Admin requiring parts or additional information requires you to have made a current contribution (£10 min.) to the Forum.

Hi marc
Thanks a million.... Ive made a donation and upgraded my membership as you guys are well worth the money... I have looked every where but I have discovered that my car was built with different gearboxes, so buy having the proper information I stand a good chance of getting the correct one. My mate is going to fit it and do the clutch at same time once they are parted ( which makes sense Ha Ha )...
As a little history to the fault the gearbox makes hell of noise in all gears bar 3rd, but this goes when clutch depressed. It pulls well but its the noise ha ha so its gotta be changed. I cant do it as I suffer from worn spine discs from 21 odd years in the coal mines and then humping tail lifts and pulling pallets, I suppose Im as knackered as my gearbox lol....
Right sum details....
2006 Xsara Picasso Exclusive VIN: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Hope this helps... pic of gearbox would be nice too...
Thanks mate...

Ok, that's all sorted, thanks for that. So you have a BVM5 (BE4-5L) BE4R Manual Gearbox with REAR AXLE HYPOID GEARSET 19 X 72.
Staff Gear A.PNG
Your Gearbox had an original Citroen Part number of 2222QS. It is a CP 19X72 and may have the following markings: DP2J or DP29.

However that box is not available so Citroen recommend one of the reconditioned boxes that have part 2223ZF. This again is a CP 19X72 but may have the following markings: DPB9, DP29 or DP2J.

The current price for a reconditioned gearbox (2223ZF from Citroen today is £2,211.74 inc. VAT, but at least you have the PSA part numbers and the gearbox codes / markings to help with searching for a second hand one.

Either of these will be fine.

Your gearbox will have the identifications marked here:
Staff Gear B.PNG
Etched area (a) (type and serial no).
Location of the identification label (b).

Hi Marc
I take it that Etched Area (A) (Type and serial No) are where the 20DP29 and long serial number is, and (B) the the location of where the 2222QS or 2223ZF same as Andys as above which means as long as the numbers match I aint restricted to it coming off an Exclusive model....
