Pretty sure that's not the case? For example;
New engine p/n; 0135 JZ
Exchange/reconditioned engine; 0139 SF

Thinking a bit more I have thought of another alternative...
I recall that the bulk of Citroen Part numbers changed in circa early 90's, from the long "XX XXX XXX" or "X XXX XXX" type format to "Axxxxx" format
(A being alphanumeric and x being numeric)
So perhaps it's a hangover for that, instead of potentially being an aftermarket part number?

(More recently than that, the part number formatting has gone much less consistent, but more often than not seems to be "xxxx AA")

I doubt very much the format of E246809 (as in this example) is a GSF part - as it is also used very widely on the continent and is referred to as a Citroen Part Number. It will therefore be used by many aftermarket suppliers when referring back to the original Citroen part:

The above are examples

In the context does 'E' not usually designate a cheaper type part that has replaced the original part fitted at the factory?

I often see this with Citroen filters, where the original part has been discontinued, and an 'E' part is listed in substitute. Quite often they appear inferior in quality to the original so I always try to find the original if possible.

I thought the 'E' number referred to the eurorepar parts, which are I believe owned by PSA/Citroen ?

I was wrong, that part is not an exchange (but there is one listed):

2052 67
RP 2050 R7
CLUTCH KIT

E246809
NFP
E:CLUTCH PSA
- AND AGE >= 3

2051 G5
SERVICE EXCHANGE CLUTCH KIT
- AGE >= 2

Prices are almost the same, not sure why they want another £100 for the original clutch...maybe there's a better mark up on the middle one:

00002050R7 CLUTCH KIT 195.98 GBP 235.18 GBP 235.18 GBP

00002051G5 EXCHCLUTCH KIT 182.37 GBP 218.84 GBP 218.84 GBP

E246809 CLUTCH KIT 170.85 GBP 205.02 GBP 205.02 GBP

I think Ian's got it above ref the 'E' parts

Thanks guys.

I'm now negotiating a deal with the mrs... She buys me some more toys (tools)* that I've wanted for ages (and will make the job much quicker/simpler) and I'll do it for her after all :lol: (along with the steering rack, front springs and top mount, at the same time)

*beam jack for the ramp and transmission jack :wink:
