C5 detection pack

Does every Mk3 C5 that has parking sensors also have the "parking space gap measurement system" - and is it of any use?

....I should perhaps mention that parallel parking is not my greatest strength.

To answer your question, no.

The Parking Gap Measurement system was available from 2008 models as part of Detection Packs 1 & 2 on VTR and Exclusive Models
Then from 2009 on the Exclusive as part of the same option packs and from 2011 on the VTR+ NAV as options.

The visual giveaway is the additional 5th and 6th Sensor on the wing, to the left of the wheel arch.

Thanks Marc. The 58 reg VTR+ I looked at today had front and rear parking sensors. Parkers (which I'm guessing isn't always 100% right on such things) says these were optional on the VTR+. Could they be ordered separately from the Detection Pack so without the gap measurement?

Hi, no they were only ever available as part of the detection packs 1 or 2. For 2008/09 even the Exclusives only had rear parking sensors unless the detection pack 1 or 2 (available option was dependent upon VTR+ or Exclusive) was specified.

To answer the other part of your question, the gap measurement can be a good idea - as the X7 can be a bit awkward to gauge length due to reduced visibility from the cabin (some may say). The only thing is you have to be driving quite slowly (circa 6mph) with function activated and indicator going to activate the system.

In the country where I am it's not so much of an issue - but I guess if you are in the cities and street parking is a regular occurrence then it could be handy.

The memory of trying to park a CX Familiale in London is seared on my soul.

I found mine easy to park, the back windows were where the end was...........the front you just knew..........and the big chrome bumpers helped of course. :rofl2:
However, on my way to get the spheres re-gassed by Pleiades, on the London north circular, I took the wrong turning so I tried to go over the central reservation on the slip road ( [-X ) and got stuck, nice man with a JCB pulled me out, only to have it a week later catch alight and become a write off! :? then I bought my 2nd!!

My CX Prestige - Long Wheelbase - parked it in the pedestrianised high street on a Sunday (Car access was allowed) - went for a Mac Ds and got in the car - decided to do a high speed reverse as I was in a hurry and went smack into one of those knee-high concrete bollards some idiot thought would be a good idea back in the 80s!

Car would of been majorly damaged if it had not been for those solid chrome bumpers as you say Stu. I had a nice round dent in there and a bit of whiplash :-D Serves me right for being in a hurry and a smart arse.

Well I've now bought the car, and it has front and rear parking sensors but not gap measurement (or at least I can't find a button to operate it if it has)

On the driver’s right dash. Bank is switched. ‘check’, one to switch off ultrasonic internal alarm and the one with a ‘P’ on it is for gap measurement function.

Ah, so it is, hidden behind the wiper stalk. Thanks!
