Citroen Relay 2.2hdi 2015 injector learning

Post by Andrew01 »

Hi Guys

I wish im on a right place with this topic. Try to keep it in nutshell.
I built this van literally from scratch valves, timing, etc after a front collision. One + wire grounded, engine bay fuse box burned a bit. (this might be important)

The van is up and running almost fine. I realised injector timing must be wrong as it has a loud diesel knock especially cold start worried about the head gasket being blown through. One very early injection on cold start bang and runs.

I bought 4 brand new injectors BK2Q-9K546-AG, changed all at once when was cold and started up like a dream, no knock whatsoever until a few hours, when all got back to tractor mode.

The trick is the Diagbox v7.82 (only this one can connect) has no option for calibration, injector learning, like in the old Lexia3. :rofl2: Option for only code the injectors bleed them and go home. (no figures at all just inj 1 2 3 4)

Tried to code them every possible way and drive it long distance might something happens, once tried gearbox end injector 1, than 234. Stopped at traffic light and went silent in just a blink of an eye for 20 sec than back to tractor mode again.

Thanks for your time reading this, i owe a pack of beer to someone who can solve this mistery.
[-o< [-o< [-o< [-o< [-o<

I can only read the learning status of the injectors, idleing, at 70-80C shows learning not done.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Do you have the VIN, so we can tell what system you have (Delphi / Bosch or other).
This also might help with checking the code and how many digits to enter.
There is also the issue as to whether your injectors are newer than the Engine ECU software version installed.
And the possibility of whether the values were actually telecoded.
Did you record the codes of the previous injectors before changing them as a matter of interest?
Are these Siemens / VDO injectors - If so, which part of the code were you using and how many digits?

Once we have your VIN, it might help further.

Hi Mark
GR8
VIN: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
I still have them old injectors (done 51k miles)
The new ones have the same part number as on the old ones apart from the calibration code BK2Q-9K546-AG or shall i look for other id numbers?
Thank you

That doesn't look like the code - moreover the part number. If these are Siemens, then it should be a 6 digit alphanumeric code as shown here:

From what I can tell, this is a Siemens VDO system - as fitted to the Ford 130 PUMA Engine (some of the characteristics are not available, but engine ECU would appear to be made by Continental.

Anyway, looking at the original injectors, these are Siemens and therefore use the 6 digit code on the picture I posted above. If you have a different type, then this might be an issue with the coding and whether the software can interpret the codes.

New ones: 82AKAD
9AFLDF
B7HLJJ
B0HLHH
Old ones: 9ACLEF
84CGCD
99DKEF
9DEHFG
Is that cylinder numbering applies to this vehicle? Very confusing as it is a ford engine and there is no guideline in diagbox at the point of programming.

These are the programming codes - 6 digits - so try again using the these 6 digit codes when programming.
This is the correct code and you have the Ford engine which was originally fitted at factory with Siemens VDO injectors as per my diagram - this is from the procedures for an older Relay - but will be the same.

As long as you input the correct 6 digit code relevant to the injector / cylinder number.

Thanks Mark,
I will give it a try according to your diagram asap.

Injector 1 -- > 1
injector 2 --> 2
injector 3 --->3
injector4---> 4

That as far as I know and as already stated in this thread, is the Transit engine. I have often said here that Citroens are actually generally simple and straightforward in spite of their reputation. On some of the Fords the injector number is Not the cylinder number. Counting starts at 1 but follows the firing order. Number 1 is usually at the timing cover end.Firing order is 1. 3. 4. 2.
Cylinder Injector
1 =======1
2.=======4
3.=======2
4.=======3

I don't know if Citroen go for this madness on the Relay but SOME of the Transits work this way for injector coding. I found it out after coding injectors and the engine not starting.
Ps: Siemens injection and engine management is now branded Continental.

Hi Guys

Loads of work has been done since we spoke.
Injectors coded as Marc advised and you were right, however knocks and poor engine performance still there.

The fault code came up lately P0340 39 Camshaft sensor signal too low.

Later on i took it to the dealer, it spent 3 days there, they say they cannot find the problem all work as it should.
Im not joking i quote their comment: have you still got the silencer foam to the injectors ? Put it back on.
Second dealer service called Theoco london technician said: have you changed the fuel filter?

So no point wasting time with them anymore, i took this matter into my own hands again.

Engine has new:
- timing kit (timing spot on)
- sensors cam/crank
- brand new intake camshaft (where the signal taken from)
- entire engine loom was removed and checked ok
- fuel pressure sensor (i thought it measures lower pressure than actually is)

I decided to go for a new ecu. Ecu has been cloned by me with Diagbox, apperantly all copied apart from the transponder data, would not start.

Locksmith tried to program the keys to the new ecu, operation went seccessful, new code uploaded to the new ecu, but still not start because of 'incorrent immo code sent by ECU to BSI.

Than they sent me to the tech guy who copied the entire data from the old ecu to the new one and guess what the same immo problem. SID 208

Im lost guys any idea ?

I owe loooooots of beers to someone who solve this mistery.

Just in case ill save my pocket money for a box matches and a can of petrol or a rope.

Thanks for taking a look at it.

Hi, do you have any update on this? I am having a similar problem. After perform an injector calibration with diagbox the engine started to knock really hard on low revs with load. Also the idling it's sometimes irregular. I then coded the injectors and learned them again still without success. There's a note saying that you need to run the engine when hot 80C and the injectors will calibrate themself's by going untill 2600rpm and than let the rotation drop to 1600. Usually diagbox will count till 3 on the menus you presented above. My version doesn't have this menus available but I will do this procedure and see if works! Good luck!
