Hi Hell Razor 5543. I also have a mk1 C5 VTR estate. Can you explain how the changeover was done. TIA.

On my C5 (which has the rain sensing wipers) there was a wide shroud holding the mirror to the windscreen. IIRC I just slid the mirror down the windscreen, and it came away easily. I then checked up under the headlining, and found a pair of wires ending in a blue plug (which had crumbling foam tape around it). I cleaned the remnants of the tape away, and then connected up the auto mirror. I then slid the new mirror into place. As the mirror has all the electronics built in I did not need to do anything with a Lexia.

There are 2 types of Electrochrome mirror for your 2004 C5 - depending on build date and BSI Slave Unit. As you have the BSI Light Comm 2000 slave unit on your car, you would need one of the following parts:
Original Part No: 8149 SY or the later replacement part: 8153 Z7. Both these are compatible with your vehicle's electronic architecture.

I must have got lucky with the one I got from a scrap yard. Once it was fitted it worked straight away, and no configuration was required.

It won't need configuring James, it's just there are 2 types of the mirror depending on whether you have the slave Comm 2000 unit or not.

GiveMeABreak wrote: 30 Sep 2017, 11:59 That would be a bit overkill IMO. The higher fuse rating for the cigar lighter would not be suitable for the electrochrome function and the wiring would be messy; the lighting function for the front interior lamp control unit and front courtesy light is handled directly by the BSI - so that might have unintended consequences mucking about with that.

Why in God's name would ceiling lights need to be wired through CANBUS.. is beyond me. Are the reading lights also needlessly complex to control? They seem to be mostly an on-off affair. (picture as example)

Videos and pictures online reveal some pretty simple connectors; though I'm not sure whether or not they're just VDC and ground.

I was just using illustrating a point for example on the C5 X7, even the interior lights are monitored so that they will turn off after a maximum of 1 hour by the BSI. The courtesy lights are determined by the door module switches and BSI where before you had a simple on off whenever the door opened or shut. Now if the door is left open for a while it switches the lights off after a certain time.

Lets say that you find a permanent live in the reading lamp unit and wire it up. That would mean your electrochrome mirror would be powered up all the time, so draining your battery over time......

I had the dimming mirror on my old C5 X7, VTR+Nav. Combined with the smallish black tinted rear screen it all seemed far too dark, so blue tac applied to sensor and left there for 5 years. The one on my current C4 Picasso is a little better as you can still see the shape of whats behind you rather than just 2 orbs of dulled headlights.

Not a fan! Be careful what you wish for.

Of course Richard, you could of just switched it off using the small almost hidden button! :rofl2:

I suppose there has to be something said for reading the manual :-D

Seriously though, I find it extremely useful, I also have the rear blind up permanently, which provides another layer of anti-dazzle. Living in the country, we have more than our fair share of 4x4 've-hicles' and with the newer ones with the LED lights, they are a dazzle disaster - so find this combo a great counter move.

Nope - there are 2 versions of the actual mirror, presumably from different suppliers. mine was switch free! Absolutely, certainly switch free. I would have loved a switch, I envied switch owners in the same way I envy Bentley Continental GT owners as they swish past on the autoroutes.

2009 versions had switch, mine was 2010 one. Maybe the change from 138 to 163 bhp was concurrent. Manual read several times and forensically examined. After initial blu tac success, I got the blue tac good and dirty so it was patent blac-tac and all but invisible.

Ok, my bad Richard  - it seems that only the models with the Electrochrome DOOR mirrors have the switch: So yet another quirky variation in the specs - this is getting an art in deciphering PSA options! I think this one below is from C5 X7 handbook version 50!

I could just get a mirror with an on/off button and make sure to turn it off along with the car.

You could - if it will fit the C3, and if you remember to turn it off. Before I located the correct feed for my front and rear Dash Cameras, I had it on a permanent feed and forgot to turn it off several times. I left the car for a few days and had a job to start the car the next time! Managed to piggy back a switched feed from the electric seats now the cameras just turn on and off with the car after a 5 second delay. Perfect.
