Thanks Jim,
Hopefully its just the pump.
As its an electric pump with pipes going to the rack (and a fluid reservoir), we were hoping to fit a pulley-pump and keep the rack. What do you think ?

There may be a problem with pressure regulation at full-lock that could cause severe damage to the rack, pump or both as the racks may well be very different to cope with the different assistance mechanisms...

I'd play safe here and swap rack too but again, you have nothing to loose except for a wrecked rack and a lot of hydraulic fluid sprayed everywhere if it does not work out!

Ah , see your point Jim.

Wonder if the 306 rack fits - in its bare bones - then use the track control arms and track rod ends from the 306 ? Doubt it does though , as the 306 appears to be wider so the hole in the floor would be wrong, as well as the travel from left to right in the rack itself.

Maybe a good second-hand unit will become available. We will take the electric pump out and see if we can coax it into life first.

Apparently the electric pump from the Citroen C15 is the same - which widens our search a bit. Anyone know of any other donors ?

We secretly hope to get a C15 unit - as every car we have had so far in France has had a Citroen bit fitted to it - even our Golf.

Hello to all.

205 going well - fingers crossed.
We run it for 3 to 4 hours non-stop each morning for work. Have done 700km in the last week. Haven't had time to do the steering yet so big biceps are predicted.

Its helping us fight our way back from "the month from hell" car-wise that is.

If it continues like this it will be an annual km of 36400 - in a 257euro car............will need a large slice of good luck.
