Citroen c2 problem

Post by Inkcandy »

Hi guys, so we have a Citroen c2. Been going absolutely fine, driving fine no problems just flew through mot, no problems idling, no misfiring or anything like that just sweet. So my misses was driving it yesterday, stopped at the traffic lights, it cut out but started again, got another 15 miles down the road and it conked out completely, won't start again. Ecomode on the dash, battery light flashes, side lights worked but no headlights, and no electric windows. Weirdly the electric windows only worked when we were towing it from the road, and the headlights came back on. So we took it to a garage only to be told that basically they have no idea what is only if they start stripping the engine to find out which could cost upwards of £800+ with there random conclusion being that there is a problem with the injectors. Would the injectors just go just like that without any prior warning in the previous days etc? Your thoughts would be much aprreciated guys. Otherwise it's scrap.

I'm not an expert, but problems like this can be a dodgy BSI. I know this is common on the C4, not sure about C2.

I strongly suggest you find somebody with a Lexia to put on it. That will give you a good start in troubleshooting. The fact that the car has gone into economy mode suggests it is low on power - when did you last change / have you ever changed the battery? These batteries can go and go, but when they are spent they give little warning.

So order of the day is first check the battery. If you have a known good battery then try this and see if that cures the problems - if not, then get it on the Lexia, read, and clear the faults and the read any faults again. That should just leave any permanent recent faults.

Here's the list of members who have offered Lexia services and a Google map of their locations:

A faulty BSI won't cause that sort of trouble, but a faulty engine fuse box may - but I suspect a weak / poor battery.

Cheers guys..... urm as far as i am aware the battery has never been changed. We've only been in ownership of the car for just over a year now and this is the first time we've had any trouble with it. It's only done around 60-70k miles. It's very difficult getting any sense out of the misses as to what the garage has actually done, if anything, so I shall have to speak to them today. My argument is the fact that the car has been running smoothly and has given no prior warning or hiccups remotely related to an injector problem, I'm a little sceptical about how they have come up with that diagnosis? Can the injectors just give up the ghost just like that or would you experience misfiring etc etc etc days previously?

Also when you turn the key it does make some sort of
Noise, not just nothing like when the battery is dead flat.

I agree with Marc ^^^ you need to find someone with a Lexia or with a decent diagnostic machine before you spend any money. If you cannot find a decent independant garage i would bite the bullet and take it to Citroen - this may be cheaper in the long run than paying people who dont know what they are doing.

The injectors generally won't just stop working unless there is a fuel starvation problem like fuel blockage or faulty pump or an electrical issue.

Until you get it on a Lexia we will be making guesses so that really needs to be your next step. If when you turn the ignition on you hear a humming then that will likely be the fuel pump / injection kicking in. Do you have main headlights working now? If not that still may mean battery or fuse box.

You really need to get it to garage or somone that has a lexia before you start touching it.
What is the VIN number so we can identify the exact engine?

Edit: My reply just crossed Bick's ^^^, so that's what we both suggest you do.

I won't be spending anything on it until I know exactly what's wrong with it, have already told the garage that where The car is currently at. It was only 1300, it's nothing new so won't be spending hundreds on it anyway. I don't know the vin number yet as the car is still at the garage at the moment. But im sure it's a 1.1 petrol which I'll have to double check with the misses. Does anyone know of anyone in the South east Wales area that has a lexia?

So the vin number for the car is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]. Iv had a look through the list but unfortunately there's no one on here with a lexia. Misses been back to the garage today they said there seems to be a spacing issue with the valves? However it sound like basically they still have no clue. Guess I'll just have to find someone with a better diagnostics.

So you have a 2006 C2 3 DOOR SALOON 1.1 i 60 (TU1A) petrol, Manual 5 speed gearbox and Johson Control Fitted injection system, all CAN assembly.

Although I can't recommend them personally, I had a quick Google for Citroen repairers in your area and these people came up (French Auto Solutions) - they say they are French car and Volvo specialists - might be worth a call at the very least:
