No power at the injector plug.
For the price of a new sensor I'll try that. Thanks.

A faulty crank sensor wont stop power to the injector plug, it will just stop the pulsed earth that operates the injector.
You need to find out why there is no power at the injector plug. You really want an injection system wiring diagram to make this easier.

Odd that there's no spark now, considering it fired on a spray originally :? Also you say there's now fuel to the rail that wasn't there before. I wonder if the crack sound was a backfire from leaning out when the pump stopped originally and maybe a low battery causing this latest round of issues. Is the immobiliser disarming correctly now?

Anyone nearby with lexia? Would at least give a better clue even if there's no comms as it'd give a logical path to trace

God knows ekjdm14, the £90 offer for scrap is getting more and more tempting.

The original 'crack' came from the exhaust cat area and fits in with the unburnt fuel being ignited theory.
I don't have any dash lights on or off that weren't there before. Engine was in very good health.
The immobilisor switch seems to be operating correctly. I've taken it off, given it a shake. Popped up and reset no problem.
The spark plugs are dry with no oiling/fueling or soot deposits. No spark present. As they are dry I surmise there is no fuel going in.
I cannot get any voltage reading from the injector plug when turning over.
There is a buzz when the ignition is turned on which stops after a couple of seconds.
There is fuel in the fuel rail and in the feed pipe.
Battery turns engine over happily enough.

I was hoping to avoid the 'replace everything until it starts' scenario as that will run into £100s with no guarantee that it will sort the problem.

Ok, new crank sensor on and it fired up straight away! Hooray!
But...when it's revved up quickly something metallic is being thrown up inside the bell housing and getting trapped against the sensor creating sparks.
Bugger.
I really do not fancy pulling the car apart to get the gearbox out. :-(

I know of somebody who had an issue with his car eating crank sensors. It turned out that the previous clutch (which had been replaced) had come apart somewhat, and some of the debris had not been cleaned out of the bell housing. Once the RPM got high enough this debris was thrown around the bell housing, quickly writing off another sensor! Once the people who had replaced the clutch cleaned out the bell housing the problem went away.

Yes, I'm sure that would cure it but I really do not fancy trying to get the gearbox out.

Well, that metallic item is going to eat your shiny new crank sensor fairly quickly if it is left in there.

If only a small fragment, maybe possible you could just part the box-engine joint enough to fish it out, or let it fall out. Long shot, though.
Or access with a magnet through clutch lever aperture, or anywhere else?

Well, I'm back!
Took the little plate off the bottom of the bell housing and nothing fell out but I've been running it about and giving it full revs and the noise has disappeared - for now! What ever it was has either broken up completely or is hiding in a corner somewhere waiting for the most inopportune moment to jump up and have that crank sensor!
