Re: c5 lights
Fairly typical low battery voltage behaviour.
Make sure the battery is charging sufficiently and is not discharging itself overnight.
Ideally take it out of the car and give it a full charge.
Try and follow this procedure to avoid making the problem worse:

Re: c5 lights
Check the battery connections and earth bonding - corrosion or loose connections can give rise to the same symptoms.
Did the Halfords bloke test the alternator output?

Re: c5 lights
No.he tested the battery with the car switched off.ive just been out in the car this morning and it fired up perfect so now im really confused.
Re: c5 lights
Got my battery tested by a different crowd yest.he done an alternator test and starter test and both were good.but the battery test said replace battery.it said the battery was reading only 425A and it should have been 640A.so i replaced battery but my lights are still coming on when i turn the key.

Re: c5 lights
2 things come to mind without a diagnostic being done -
1) Is yours an SX or above with Auto lights? If so, have you tried switching the lighting stalk to OFF instead of AUTO? Does this make any difference?
2) If switching them onto manual instead of AUTO makes a difference , it could be a faulty light / rain sensor module. If not, then I would suspect the switch module under the steering wheel - especially as you have mentioned airbag lights too. Is the lighting stalk wobbly or loose?

Re: c5 lights
There is no airbag warnings or any other warnings on now.my model has the auto lights but pressing the button made no difference.so i decided to take off rear view mirror and saw that both rain and light sensors disconected.but everything has been fine with these disconnected up until now.

Re: c5 lights
Well they shouldn't really be disconnected - as the Auto light and wiper function can be manually activated or deactivated using the stalk settings. This could be throwing up some faults if just disconnected without informing the BSI. I would connect it back up to be honest. If your problem is still occurring then I suspect a faulty Steering Wheel Switch Module (COMMS UNIT), but it would be better to get it diagnosed first with a Lexia to rule out any other faults like a short or a bad earth.

Re: c5 lights
Reconnected the auto light sensor today.and it seemed to solve the problem.the lights do not come on with the key anymore.they only thing that doesnt seem to work is the button on the stalk for turning on and off the auto lights.

Re: c5 lights
As I understand it you have to have the ignition set to a certain position, and then hold down one of the stalk buttons for a few seconds to switch on/off the auto lights function. This is not the way you turn the light on/off when driving (that is via the twist control). When I can I will check the handbook and let you know the correct procedure.

Re: c5 lights
To disarm or activate the function:
- Place the key in the accessories position (1st notch),
- Place the lights stalk in the AUTO/0 position,
- Press the end of the lights stalk for more than four seconds.
