BX TZD Valve Clearances

Post by ScottFromNZ »

My BX TZD Turbo has only done 101,000 kms. In the owners book no mention is made in the service schedule of checking and resetting valve clearances. Are they hydraulic adjusters on these engines or are they "set for life" so no need to check them? Has anyone checked them and found that they were still within specs after this mileage?

This enging (in common with all the XUD units) uses bucket type tappets. The only way to adjust them is to remove the cam shaft and change the shims! The engines are not known for valve wear until very high mileages when the exhaust valves tend to get a bit tight. If you check them you will probably find they are not far off.
