Rear Caliper Seals

Post by froggy »

Hi, I am trying to source some rear caliper seals for my S1 Xantia . anyone got any ideas where I can source them ? The Big Red Caliper company can supply the pistons but not the seals. :( Thanks in advance Terry.

That's intriguing Terry as I have, in all my years, ever known a rear caliper piston seal to fail. In fact I've never had a rear piston out...

Is one of yours leaking?

Hi Jim , yes the seals have failed (failed MOT) the piston is ok. interestingly , there are two different pistons...33m/m and 36m/m. mine is the former.

It may be just as easy to obtain a spare caliper from a scrapper Terry...

They are allegedly still available from Citroen:

Part Number Description Quantity Price excl. VAT Price incl. VAT Total incl. VAT Selection
96025613 PISTON SEAL 1 0.11 GBP 0.13 GBP 0.13 GBP

96025615 PISTON SEAL 1 0.25 GBP 0.30 GBP 0.30 GBP

The piston on hatch backs is listed as 33mm; I suspect the part ending 613 is a 33mm inboard seal, and the other, 38mm, is an outboard dust seal. Are you sure its the seal? If the corrosion behind the caliper is bad it can snap a mounting bolt which causes the 2 halves of the caliper to separate and leak.....

Yes it's leaking from the piston seals, many thanks for the info, great help.

Iam wondering whether the leaking rear suspension cylinders (earlier in the year) may have dragged in enough water and crud, to have helped cause the leak on the caliper? any thoughts?

I wouldn't have thought so Terry... The leaks would have tended to push LHM out under positive pressure and I cannot imagine enough negative pressure to have been generated to have dragged anything in...

I would, as Richard suggests, check the caliper piston bores for corrosion as that could certainly cause leaks, even a little bit...
