C3 1.4 Petrol 2003 Automatic Limp Mode

Post by Trucky04 »

This poor car has been stuck in a garage for the last year as is has perplexed our engineer. The management light has stayed on and it wont rev much past 1200 rpm. We had the computer removed and reset and she worked fine for 30 miles or so but failed again. My engineer has taken a photo of the fault code numbers. Can anyone shine any light or has the car met it dark mysterious end??

Well, first, let me welcome you to the forum (OK, you have been a member for a couple of months, but this is your first post).

I would suggest you arrange to get the C3 connected up to a Lexia system (as these are specific to PSA vehicles). This should reveal more (including, with any luck, the undocumented codes). There are Forum members with Lexia clones who are also willing to help out. Try looking through the following link to find the nearest to you;

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

It would be helpful if you posted up some more details of the car - Model, Engine, or better still, the VIN so we know what you have.
Without a proper diagnosis via a Lexia (the PSA group diagnostic tools), you may not get a proper diagnosis - the above is a third party scan tool.

Having said that, you may have a faulty accelerator pedal or TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). All the C3s have 'fly by wire' accelerators which essentially contains the potentiometer, which if it is worn out or faulty will not be sending the correct information to the engine management ECU. I would not suggest you change or play with any ECUs until you have looked at this - as you will likely get an ECU fault if it cannot determine the correct information from the TPS.

If you want the correct part, we will need your VIN.

That's why we ask for the VIN :-D

Ok, so you have a C3 5 DOOR SALOON 1.4i 75 (TU3JP) with 4-SPEED AUTOMATIC GEARBOX.

The accelerator part number for your car is: 1601 L1 and is £98.75 inc. VAT brand new from Citroen.

Before you feint (or not), there are some used second hand ones on the bay of evil selling for over a £100! Personally, I would replace it with a new one, as you just don't know when a second-hand one will start playing up.
