Xantia Window Relay

Post by Eddie Nuff »

Finally got some time to have a look at the sinker. New rear sphere cylinder fitted and working, took an age to bleed there was that much air in the system. Offside windows don't work and electronics guy I know says the square copper things in the centre aren't working

If I can find some from another Citroen/Peugeot he can replace them. What cars are these fitted to or does anyone have any spare?

From this relay originally

They look like the relays to me...

Are you planning on desoldering them and putting new ones on? In which case any 12v relay should do.

I'm planning on doing nothing with them apart from finding what he wants and taking them to him. He knows what he's doing with these things, I don't - hence the question.

Eddie, Just to help nail these relays down, can you post a photo of the underside of the board, so we can see the relay solder contacts? Thanks.

I am rather surprised that the relays have been diagnosed as faulty, the contacts look OK in the pictures, and modern relays really don't fail otherwise.

I am also a bit sceptical that the box has anything to do with the operation of the offside windows, I think that it only controls the drivers window, the others are just controlled by the switches with no electronics involved.

They look like a couple of 5-pin relays: two coil connections, plus one set of changeover contacts (3 more pins). They're not 'standard automotive' cube relays, but something else.

The fact that they're not operating doesn't mean the relays themselves are dud - it's actually unlikely, because relays themselves are extremely reliable. More likely the fault is elsewhere.

There are whole modules available on Ebay....just search for that Citroen 961....... number.

Sorry not to be of more help; just wanted to establish what sort of relays those were. Your second photo helped.

Atb,

It did?! :?

All I know about this electricy stuff is that the offside windows do not work so I ring and ask him what could be the problem. He says bring the relay over and I'll test it and he says the copper things ain't doing their job. Having known him for over 20 years I have no reason to disbelieve him.

Just for the hell of it how can I test if there is power getting to the relay?

That relay only controls the drivers window, and is only present on VSX spec cars with one touch drivers windows. The other windows don't have relays.

I believe Xantia window wiring is a bit similar to XM. With the exception of the driver's window, which has its own circuitry, the other window switches are connected to each other, so a fault in one (loose connection, bad switch, sticking switch) can render another window inoperative. If you have it, the 'child-proof' rear function switch (that knocks out rear windows and rear cigar lighter socket), is also involved.

Worth checking each of the door switches, and making sure connections are sound, and that the switches are free to return and are not sticking down. Also get a check done on the flexi-wiring into each door.

Curious as the car is an SX according to the logbook.

And no, the other windows don't have relays in them.
