^ That seems to be a pretty good option considering the lack of availability currently.

Re: Part number look up, please.
I had a look at the repair services but they only replace the transistor in the later resistor, a job I could do myself.
On the one I have they offer a repair kit for a couple of quid to replace the thermal fuse (the bit between the wires on the end) my thermal fuse checks out ok so it isn't that.
I'd be a bit happier if I was absolutely sure it was the resistor at fault but without one to substitute I can't get much further, there's power down to the resistor and I don't want to start stripping other stuff out unnecessarily.

I must be missing something here. I thought your AC type is the climate control type. AFAIK that type doesn't have a simple resistor, it uses transistors.
Is your control pack like this
or like this

Wow, I always thought I had difficulty finding parts because I choose old cars. I guess not, its just a Citroen thing.

Re: Part number look up, please.
Neither of those Paul, see my photos back up this thread. The one supplied by the Ebay supplier is the first type pictured in your post.
It's been suggested I could use it with and adapter plug soldered into the loom but I have my doubts about that.
Rained off all day yesterday so nothing further done and it's raining now so maybe the same today.

Re: Part number look up, please.
OK, then it's the manual aircon type that you have. My bad.
Mine is automatic and the first type and I simply pinched the photos from the blower resistor site. I trusted that their second photo was correct. Maybe the big green resistor is inside that ally fin cover. Maybe it's the wrong photo. Or maybe that is the later type that needs the loom modification. I just don't know.
But if you're saying that it's just the thermal resistor on the end that's blown then they do a kit for £2.55 to fix that. Possibly worth a punt?
http://www.heaterblowerresistor.co.uk/c ... istor.html - ignore the fact that it says C3, it's only the shape of the mounting that differs.

Re: Part number look up, please.
Have you tried shunting the power in and out on the plug with a piece of heavy duty wire to see if the blower then works? If it does then the control unit is to blame somehow and if not the problem lies elsewhere. That's what I did on both my Mk1 and X7 when I wanted to eliminate the control unit.
One final thing. On my X7 it turned out to just be a dicky connection between the control unit and the plug. I nearly ended up buying a replacement control unit until I "just on the off-chance" pushed the control unit into the plug and tried again. Note that I had to have the engine running for the blower to work on the X7, I can't remember whether that's the same for the Mk 1. I sprayed some contact cleaner in the plug and onto the control unit pins and it's been working fine for the last 3 - 4 months.

Re: Part number look up, please. Fixed it!
Those '99% it's the blower resistor' comments were wrong on this one.
Weather dried up so I went and had a proper go at it, this is what I found, had to butcher it badly to un-weld it:

So you're the 1%!
At least you've found out why. Well done and good luck on sorting the mess out.

Re: Part number look up, please.
Presume that's on the BSI? New plug off a scrapper will not be too hard, but fixing the socket end might be a bit more difficult... you may have to get a 2nd hand BSI and get it wiped, or get a set of BSI, ECU and keys from a scrapper.

Re: Part number look up, please.
Cleaned up the contacts and it's working for now, I will probably just by-pass the wires by snipping them off under the fuse box and soldering in permanent links if it stops working again.
