Which service manual do you recommend...?

Post by AlvinCitroenC5 »

I am in search of a good service manual for my 2005 C5II 3.0 V6. From my understanding the Haynes manual does not include the 3.0V6. Is there a all-in-one alternative?

Thanks.

Has anyone any experience of the emanualonline items?
Where did their pages come from?

It is a good question Chris. They have manuals for the many engine types I have. I always back off on downloads though as I am never sure if they are safe.
Any manuals I download are free and they come up right away on googling the page, rather than jumping through hoops to get them.

Some have said they are dodgy and other OK - I buy mine from France and translate them (revue technique automobile) as they have good photographic guides in.
There are some TrustPilot reviews here - if you filter to show the 1 Star reviews, you can see where the dodgy dealings issues arise:
https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/emanua ... com?page=3

Additionally, found this excerpt from their T&Cs as quoted by a concerned purchaser, and it would seem they supply a virtualised copy of XP to read the damn thing!
When the following is in the T&Cs of the website you know something dodgy is going on:
"7.7 All products on Our website are sold as "backup copies", hence We assume you possess the original.

As I thought. I did pull up a good few similar comments on the web today.
Someone's obviously gone to a lot of trouble to make their homepage and listings extensive and attractive, and it all looked a bit too good to be true. And you know what they say about that . . .
Pulling up the XM offerings, and knowing the very limited sources of workshop/parts/repair/servicing documents available, I just couldn't believe what they were offering - at a price, of course.
It gives the impression of almost all the major manufacturers' documentation having been "acquired"!

I'd agree Chris - in fact I'e just had a very entertaining half hour reading through the 1 star reviews and the company's responses which seem quite curt.

Have you seen the Revue Technique versions for your XM Chris? PDF or Digital access.

Thanks, Marc, for that XM link. Not a publication I have. Will download it, and give the printer a workout!

If you decide to purchase it, I have a utility that I can use to provide a PDF translation for you. It generally keeps the layout fairly intact and does a fair job. Just email me a copy of the PDF and I can have a translated copy back to you within 10 minutes :)

They put a watermark of your email over all the pictures to discourage sharing, so they know who it originated from! Quite a good idea.

OK, have purchased it (digital copy), and can go in and view any of the manual's sections.
Can't see, though, how to save the whole thing as a single PDF, so I can print it out in its entirety.
Looks like you can only call up one section at a time... That can't be right?

Thanks for the offer of a translated PDF; I'll take you up on that when I can download the whole thing.

Chris, the option is either a Paper (PDF) OR a digital version. With the digital it stays current and gets updates as needed, but I believe you can only print out small sections at a time. The other option is the PDF that they give you and that one you can printout completely. If you tell them you have ordered the wrong one as you cannot print it out, they should allow you to swap for a PDF instead, but not both. That's why I opted for the PDF, so I could print it out and look at it off line at leisure and refer to it when doing a job.

Thanks, Marc. I opted for the digital version, as I assumed that was a complete downloadable and printable version - as PDFs tend to be. Very confused by the PDF being referred to as Paper!!! Will try to swap it, as suggested.

Have just gone back to the site, and the choice is between a printed paper version (Papier) complete with a delivery charge, and Digital - the part-print-only viewable and downloadable PDF version.
Will have to print out the latter section by section.

I have a separate laptop that I use for downloads. Everything is out of date, operating system, anti virus, anti spyware etc. However I download to an external hard drive and then use all the anti tools on an up to date machine to scan the download before using it. So far I have downloaded several agricultural and industrial manuals in PDF format without any issues. These are usually the dealers workshop manuals in paper format which have been scanned to PDF. They have not been put through OCR and so each page is an image not text. This means that you cannot search the manual for a term. You can only read the index and go to the appropriate page like with a paper book.
I also have a number of car manuals that run on an xp vm. These are usually the manufacturers manuals which used be supplied to dealers on cd. So far so good. These usually cover the complete range of models from the manufacturer.
I also have a paper RTA manual from ETAI. I find it excellent. Everything you need without the usual "best entrusted to a main dealer" rubbish.
If you have worries about downloading, install VMware. Set up a virtual machine and download to that. There are several techniques to ensure that nothing gets out to your actual computer.
P.S. My opinion for what its worth is that most of the Emanual type operations must be flying the skull and crossbones. However for some machines there is no other way of getting the information. Who could pay €2000 for information to repair a €10000 machine.

No probs Chris - they may have changed things since I got mine a while ago. Regardless - if you print out the specific sections as PDFs, I can translate them for you in parts as you require - it's not a hassle and doesn't take too long. Just email them to me as and when you need them done. :)

It might be a bit of a hassle but can I suggest using PDF Creator to create and merge pages.

http://www.pdfforge.org/pdfcreator

I use it create PDFs from just about any source and I specifically use it to combine various (usually Word) documents into a single document for a newsletter. You can open multiple PDFs and combine them all together into a single PDF. Conversely you can print, say, the first half of a long document to one file and then the second part to a second file.

If a document is photo rich you can control the size of the photos is the final file. This way I create one file to print from and another smaller file for downloading from a web site.
