Have just put the ZX back together after HG change, but on start up there is an excessive ammount of black smoke, and a slight knocking sound in the engine bay. Car starts and revs okay, but the pollution is pretty severe!
Could I have got the fuel pump one tooth out on sprocket? Or could the engineeres who skimmed the head have knackered one of the injectors? Or should I expect this for the first few minutes as all the crap is blown out following the change?
Please help, as the wife is supposed to be using the car tomorrrow![xx(]

Literally 30 seconds or so, as if the belt was out I didn't want to smash the valves in!
I have now been through all the injector unions in turn, and the knocking has reduced - what remains may well have been there beforehand.
Still very smoky, but I guess I shall have to wait until I've given it a run up and down the road to properly assess that.
More tomorrow!
