C5 Faulty Airbag.

Post by demag »

I'm fairly certain I read on here recently of someone who had a C5 airbag fault caused by moving the steering column?
I moved the drivers seat and steering column a couple of days ago and now on starting I get a faulty airbag warning. I squeezed the connectors under the seat but it's still there.

It needs diagnosing properly, some have faulty connections under the seat some have broken wires in the Comm units (under the steering wheel with all the switch stalks)

I might risk the Lexia if the weather picks up a bit. It's not nice here.

The protective cable cover under the seat has sharp bits in it that caused a wire break in my MkII C5....yep, sharp bits inside a cable protector :)

I've sorted three of them none of which had the under seat problem, one was a broken wire under the bulk head carpet where the passenger's feet land and the other two were Comm 2000 units, one fixed by repairing the flat 'clock spring cable' and one replaced with a spare from the breaker's yard.
Generally the Comm unit is not repairable if the flat cable is damaged, it's too flimsy to solder.
