Battery died now have warnings galore

Post by Addyman »

So, earlier today I was at a car showroom possibly looking at changing my car.

Anyway about half an hour later myself and the salesman walked to my car so he could look round to value it. We try to start it up. Dead.

Stone cold dead.

They tried a jump starter box on it but no joy. So I called Green Flag who came out and managed to start it with jump leads.

Told me to take it for a blast for 30 mins to charge it up.

Anyway he left and i set off and then I get all sorts of warnings, flashing lights etc. Parking brake fault. Esp / Ast fault. Auto parking is off, ESP warning etc. Plus, at really low speeds it beeps and the steering starts 'juddering'. So I limp it home as was only a mile or two. Now it won't start again.

Is it just the battery? Could all these warnings be from a lack of electrical supply? Or is there something worse and more expensive wrong?

Any help or guidance would be really appreciated.

Thanks.

It is quite possible that a depleted or defective battery is behind the problems.
This generation of Citroens and Peugeots have been seen to really dislike low voltages that throw up all sorts of mayhem.

Have the battery fully charged or replace it with one known to be in perfect condition.

There is a procedure for removing and replacing the battery on C5s that will most probably apply to your C4 too.

Link.

Hope this helps - you may have to make some modifications to that if your battery is too depleted to operate the windows. I have managed with a couple of shortcuts but have also failed miserably too.

Yeah, battery goosed. Changing one on a C4 Picasso is a bit of a game, and worse on higher spec cars.

Not only don't modern cars (i.e. anything designed less than 20 yrs ago) not like low voltages but some really modern cars don't like new batteries either, because their electronics are so clever they don't know they're being powered by one - without being told!
