Flow divider XM / Xantia

Post by noxati11 »

Hi, I've dismantled the flow divider for cleaning and adding shims under springs. Along with that, I wanted to add all new O rings, even in the "magic bolt." Unfortunately, I wrongly marked the bolt with nut and now I do not know how to properly configure it. Can anyone advise me ? :)
Here: http://www.club-xm.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... 31a3435f63 is pretty well described function, but not, how adjust it. :D

Hi there, that link you provide was written by my terrible self a few years ago and it covers investigations into the working of the FDV valve used in BX, XM and early Xantias with PAS.

I'm wondering if you are mistaking the FDV valve for the 'Pressure Regulator' (PRV) ? because the PRV has a bolt (12mm) to release the accumulator pressure but there is no 'bolt' in the FDV.

Ah, I am with you now!

Not so much a bolt but I see what you mean. It is the screw used to adjust the power steering 'full lock' pressure to stop it spiking and causing the steering ram to over pressure.

I don't have the method to set it but I think the Citroen service manuals for this outline a method of connecting a pressure gauge to the PAS output from the FDV valve (the smallest of the pipes from the unit with the 9mm union nut) I think you turn the screw clockwise with the engine running and with the steering held at full lock until the pressure reaches something like 90-100bar. Then you lock the screw there.

Or maybe someone with a spare FDV could loosen the screw and count the number of turns to remove? I have a spare FDV I could look out in due course and measure the number of turns and report back. I think though, as a rule of thumb, setting the screw until it is level (flush) to the surface sets it in the general region to work properly. If anything, being a little too 'low' set will just make the PAS a bit heavier. If it's screwed in too far though it might cause it to over pressure at full steering lock.

So I think it'll work ok if you temporarily leave it screwed in flush to the surface because I think that is the minimum insertion as I've never seen one where this screw was left protruding.

Not certain if that really helps but it's a response!

I just noticed you have a 1993 Xantia 16valve 'sinker' - that is a really rare model!

I was also wondering why you had to add shims to the springs as I ony found that necessary on my two XMs. All of my 3 Xantias with FDV just seemed to work! Di you find that the FDV was making a long 'hsssss' noise that will not stop? And also the suspension takes too long to raise?

Both of it. Not too much, but "hisss" was significant during cold start and during ride on idle. Also, the engine was on GR, so if it was removed, what not do some "renovation" :)
I'll find some pictures what I have and I'll post it here :)

For some reason the image links you are using are not compatible with this board, but I have edited one above so that it works: Go to you image hosting site and find the bbcode link for the image, but only paste into this forum the part between [img]xxxxxxx[/img] Then they work, I left the others for you to edit.
