Hdi 2.0 litre question .. starting issue

Post by citroenxm »

Hi all..

A simple question.. complex answer no doubt..

Whats the minimum fuel pressure needed before a hdi will start..

Ive got a 2.0 110 16v hdi c8 in.. in cranking over the fuel pressure wont rise above 95bar .. and it refuses to start... current mode for going.. fill air intake with easy start and then she fires.. because she fires the fuel pressure rises and therefore it runs..

To me it sounds like a regulator issue.. anyone else have some thoughts..

I think it's 200bar, been a long time since I had an HDi. Hopefully someone will confirm or rebuke soon.

Yes it is 200 bar minimum.

If it's only getting up to 95 bar suggests either duff fuel rail sensor/wiring to it, or possibly too low cranking speed.

Its neither them as the starter spins it over fairly fast and is a fairly new one.. i swapped the sensor over today for a known one and it gave same results.. i noticed on an actuator test i couldnt detect the pressure regulator working on the pump...

Wasn't the regulator on the pump the issue that Peter N identified as the cause of non starting on HDI engine some while ago?
Something to do with the microscopically fine filter clogging on the end of the regulator.

I've seen them on eBay occasionally for around the £70-£90 mark.

I think I had similar isue on my c5 Paul .. I swapped reg many times but in the end I think an injector was duff.. maybe it wasn't allowing pressure to build in the rail? not sure that makes sense.. anyway.from memory I changed the injector (which had bad readings) and the easy start went back in the shelf (after 5 months!)

my post will be on the forum.. probably 2 years ago

The problem I had was with an 8 valve, don't know if the 16v uses the same regulator.

The 2.0 8v.. 2.0 110 16v and early 2.2 hdi 16v all use the same pressure reg on the end of the pump...

John.. injector readings when running were good im sure..
