We've just had a mega huge lightning storm here with loss of power - and all the detail of my last post - so will take me a while to recreate it...

Just realised Multifunction display fault is because it was unplugged as dash centre was out to improve access, so just the 7362 fault!

I have the info on it and that was going to be my next suggestion! I am just getting the post and tables back of the 7362 fault for you - shouldn't be more than 10 minutes

Ok, so there is actually only one ECU that controls all the Airbags and Pyrotechnic Systems and that is the Airbag ECU.

Code 7362 will cause the system to enter the second of 3 types of backup mode:

Backup Mode 2
Selective inhibiting of one or more pyrotechnic components.
Examples of causes:
  • CAN network: Multiplexed network not operational (*)
  • Fault on the inhibition switch line of the passenger airbag (*)
  • Fault on an ignition unit line: Ignition unit inhibition faulty
N.B. : (*) In this case, the forced inhibition of the passenger airbag is done by the airbag ECU.

The above are just some examples - not all.

Fault Code 7362 diagnostic information is below:
Fault code7362
After sales description of the fault codePassenger airbag deactivation warning lamp fault : Not characterised
Description of the diagnosticsThe information "warning lamp faulty" is sent by the BSI (BSI) for more than 2 seconds
Conditions of activation of the diagnosticsPresence of ignition+
Conditions of disappearance of the faultThe warning lamp information is coherent for more than 2 seconds
Down-grade modes if fault presentLighting or non-lighting of the air bags and pretensioners fault warning light.

Recording of the fault in the built-in systems interface (BSI) faults log (JDD).

Inhibiting of one or more ignition modules (In the case of the failure of a component of the disarming system or passenger air bag, forced inhibiting of the passenger air bag, switching on of the passenger air bag disarming warning light).
Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning messageSwitching on of the air bags and pretensioners fault warning light
Main customer complaints likelySwitching on of the air bags and pretensioners fault warning light
Suspect areasConfiguration of the BSI.

Seat belt not fastened warning lights unit
Now as you have replaced the LED Lighting unit to no effect, the above would indicate that there is a configuration problem with the BSI. This may not mean a fault with the BSI - but that there is an issue with the configuration of the unit. So I have to ask has there been any changes made to the BSI (or has a garage attempted to change any of the parameters without knowing what they are doing)? A configuration change in the BSI can render the affected sytem innoperable if configured incorrectly.

At this stage, there are 2 suggestions I can offer:
1) The simplest and cheapest is a BSI reset
2) The next is to find a decent Citroen Dealer and tell them you have already had the fault diagnosed and suggest that if the BSI is not configured, could they download the BSI cionfiguration file for you and see if that resolves it if the error is not fixed by the reset. Sometimes re-downloading the BSI configuration via their servers may cure the problem. Or certainly, get them to check the parameters for the AutoLIV airbag ECU that is showing the fault to see if that is configured properly. For example, the C5 X7 has the OPTION of 2 additional chest side airbags for the outer rear seats. This is not optional kit, but if a garage were to somehow of activated this setting without them physically being wired - that could casue an issue - again, I'm just highlighting that changing a parameter can have an adverse effect.

Try this BSI reset procedure and follow it to the letter:

BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure

I know it is a bit long-winded, but it costs nothing and at least you know you have done a full reset.

Thanks Marc, I will try that, my son said the fault came on just after he got on the motorway on his way to Grimsby, he had borrowed it to tow my trailer to his girlfriends to bring back her 126 for me to do some work on, so he was towing an empty trailer at the time. It has not gone out since. I can ask Peugeot / citroen in Birmingham but I have never found one you can talk to, just the front desk which is why had had been trying to avoid that and the expence. The other thing is would just swapping the 4746 unit clear the fault if it was faulty or does it need to be configured?

4746 is the roof console seatbelt warning / airbag LED that I believe is the unit that you have already tried Nick - unless I've read your post wrong? But that is one of the suspect units according to the fault code table above.

Try the reset first and see if that helps - if not then there is something it is not happy with - Backup Mode 2 applies selective inhibiting of one or more pyrotechnic components in this state, so an MOT failure until resolved as you say.

Hi Marc,
Thanks for all your help but it looks like biting the bullet and taking it to a dealer, I tried the BSI reset and service light cleared momentarily and then returned, the auto electrical place were supposed to have tried a 2nd hand LED unit to no avail , I just wondered if they needed to do anything else , I will give Citroen in Birmingham a ring now, I can get a lift back with my son, he works about 1/2mile away.

Ok, good luck with it nick - It really is a good car if you can get this niggle sorted. Please let us know how you get on - but at least you can tell them what you know now - and hopefully they will appreciate that and not play silly bu**ers with you, knowing that you know - if you know what I mean! :-D

Just an update, car at Citroen Birmingham, gone through same process again, tried a new display unit to no avail tried reloading config to BSI to no avail so ordered a new BSI that has been fitted, SUCCESS no airbag lights or any other codes for that matter, just a bill in excess of £700 but booked in for MOT now on Monday fingers crossed.

Thanks Marc for all your help, I have found Robins and Day ( standing in for Citroen Birmingham during refurb) very helpful and being able to talk to the service team pre-armed with the information supplied was very useful. It just seems a lot of money to clear a rouge air bag light!

Hi Nick, I’m really pleased you have it sorted now. I’m sorry it took £700 to resolve though, but these are effectively mini computers. It is quite rare for them to go.

Thanks for the update and I hope you can now get on and enjoy it. 👍

Hi Guys, not sure if Iam allowed to jump on this post.
I have a similar problem with my citroen c5 2010 1.6 hdi.
Warning flashes up the the console intermittently saying seatbelt or pretensioner fault. Now I got a lad to play it in on daig for me and f610 left front satelite was reading as permanent fault. Can anyone tell me where this unit is please.the lad reckons I can swap left unit with right unit as they are interchangeable..again I'm not sure this fixes my problem..
Also since I've been trying to get this fault fixed another problem occurred with wipers. Wipers have stopped working altogether. Checked fuses and all good there.
When the lad had drags on the car he said there was a fault in the steering wheel console. He never gave me the fault code..🙄.
I'm thinking it could be the stalk that's gone whollop but how can I tell??
Any help on the above would be greatly appreciated.

The satellites (basically impact sensors) are mounted on the inner sills roughly near the B pillar. They are not normally sided & can be swapped left to right for fault finding. I replaced one on a 308 recently & had to remove the front seat to get at it, this is not always requred depending on the car, sometimes they can be got at just by pulling back the carpet.
They dont need coding after fitting.

I’d guess it’s your BSI (fuse box) in the Engine bay, pretty easy to change yourself in like 20mins. Try a 2nd hand unit to see if it does trick. Got one from eBay when my wipers went funny and I tried all sorts of the wiper motors etc.. then it turns out BSI is the main culprit for loads of electrical gremlins on these cars.
