1.9td drive belt

Post by paranoid »

How hard is it to change the alternator belt on 1.9 td xant I am not sure if it is auto tensioner or not but it has got air-con and is a 96-97 car, don't trust the haynes manual when they say its not to hard anything nasty to look out for.....
Any advice thankfully recieved[:D]

hi,
its quite straight forward, remov the offside wheel(drivers side), and then remove the engine cover if one is in place, once this is out of the way you will be able to see clearly most of the belt and its assosiated pullies, the majority of it though is simply following the book but adapting for short cuts! ;)
hope that helped!

It's not to bad to do I changed the one on the last xantia I had without a haynes in a couple of hours. The best tip I could give is make a drawing of which way the belt passes over the various tensioners and pulleys before removing the old one, makes it a lot easier to fit the new one when you can picture where the belt goes.

I changed the auxiliary belt on my 1.9 td. it didn't match the 1.9 td picture in the Haynes manual mine looked more like the 2.1 td. It was an easy job. You need a 1/4" square drive for the tensioner pulley I think.... memory is fading..
Last service I had at my friendly Citroen specialist, he recommended that next time he should change this drive belt. I told him I'd only just changed it. He'd not inspected it obviously... I think he had the best interests of the car in mind at the time..... I'll give him the benefit of the doubt !!!! ....again
