C5 2.0HDi 160 Fuel Filter change?
Has anyone got any experience on changing the fuel filter on the DW10C engine? This is on a 2011 C5 Tourer (2.0HDi 160). Manage to change everything else (including cabin filter - what a stupid design!) but the fuel filter.
I thought I'd just have to unscrew the 4 torx screws - but I can't shift a single one of them for love nor money. Can anyone confirm if that is how you change it - and any tips for loosening these screws?

Yes remove the 4 torx head screws and the fuel in and fuel out pipes.
press in the white clips on fuel lines pull off. The plastic clips broke on me and I resecured the pipes with rip ties.
How did you try to remove the torx bolts ?

Good point. Stubborn torxs won't crack with a driver or, probably, a torx key - you'll need a proper bit &, at least, a 1/4 drive ratchet/breaker/sliding T-bar, whatever + freeing agent of choice, even if they do go into plastic (although an ad-mix of acetone/ATF would not be wise!)

Re: C5 2.0HDi 160 Fuel Filter change?
I'm using a proper torx bit (T30?) but just a standard handle - I'll have to try and get hold of something a bit more meaty!
Thanks for the advice - glad I was looking in the right place to start with at least!

Re: C5 2.0HDi 160 Fuel Filter change?
The most likely reason for them being so tight is that there will be a steel spacer in the plastic housing, the bolts tend to lock onto those very tightly. Best way to loosen them is an impact gun. Failing that, more leaverage, but be careful with that, torx heads can be easily stripped.

Re: C5 2.0HDi 160 Fuel Filter change?
Re the fuel Filter. I have just got a fitting kit from citroen which has 8 screws for £15 part no 1917128. Worth while buy.
On checking my fuel filter top, the screws were tight but I was able to tighten a little more and there was a improvement in acceleration.

Re: C5 2.0HDi 160 Fuel Filter change?
Just tried to change the fuel filter on my 2009 C5 2.0 HDi 138 - the assembly is completely different to the 160, but the same kind of problem remains. Basically the top won't budge. It is screwed in with a large plastic hexagon in the middle of the plastic top, 27mm , same size and idea as the oil filter housing . No amount of force with a 27mm socket and a 40cm breaker bar will shift it. When I say no amount of force, I really mean no amount that I am prepared to apply - as you can see in the photo the edges of the 'nut' have just started to round off, obviously the steel socket is much stronger than the plastic top. It should be impossible to overtighten the top because there is a stop on the outer rim of the filter housing, but I can't get it to shift. Any ideas much appreciated

Re: C5 2.0HDi 160 Fuel Filter change?
That filter top looks similar to the DW10ATED (110BHP) setup in my Xantia. The first time I came to change the filter had a similar problem, solved by pressing down on the socket at the same time as turning it with a T-bar. It was as tight as a tight thing
Can you get a strap wrench around the outside of the top ?

Looks to me that a "special tool" would grip it better, if you have a spare socket or box spanner you could chop 2 sides out of it would allow the remaining 4 faces to sit much deeper on the top and get a better purchase on it.

Laser tools (and probably other manufacturers) do a special socket for the fuel filters. Part number 5270. It gives you a bit more confidence when you need the brute force to shift the filter lid

No no, it's a 138BHP engine. In true forum tradition it has gone off topic from the OP which was about the 160BHP engine.
My reply referred to the query from petef

Special socket now ordered off ebay, will report back on how it shapes up. What a brilliant rapid response, thanks to all.
