Well, finally got round to it today. All done from front of car. Pulled out ram against spring pressure, held it out with a clamp, removed washer end and cover. With a tent peg (metal_ with some amendments!) Pushed up the two clips that locate the ram, the whole assembly pulled out of the hole, there was enough room to do this.
Not without mishap, washer nozzles were blocked, it must have been what disintegrated within the ram, took a while to clear. Then the clips that attach the nozzles would not hold and I dropped the nozzles into unreachable area of car. Well not quite!!
Turned out the clips were not quite engaging, touch of craft knife et voila! This was for drivers side.

Just as an addition, the part I ordered from China is exactly the same as the original. They must have used original moulds as the name (valeo) had been scratched off!
