C5 MK1 HDI AUTO 2007/57 SPEEDO STICKING

Post by tim leech »

Gents

I have in at work a tidy low mileage px (71'600miles) facelift C5 HDI Exclusive Auto Estate which will go off to the trade auctions.

The speedo reads 65mph even when stationary and then moves round the dial so when your doing 40 it says 100 plus! :rofl2:

Is this a big job?

Just curious. its a good example and has been well maintained but wanted to know what kinda job it was to repair as it will help it sell.

Cheers.

That's likely to be stripped plastic gears in the stepper motor, there are posts on here 'somewhere' where diy fixes are mentioned. Stepper motors can be bought for little money, an example here but shop around:

Ok doesn't look to much of a bad job then, thanks for the advise, otherwise it looks a nice example.

I've come home in this tonight as it's taxed etc, my god it's slow.., I mean bx 17D non turbo slow, which isn't right surely?? Gearbox is smooth and changes ok and I can hear the turbo working, no warning lamps visible

Turbo vacuum solenoid thing is broken I'd bet. I had one of these as a courtesy car of Savoy Malcolm a while ago, exactly the same issue! Dog slow, I couldn't get it above 80.

He reckoned it was a 50p fix for that one... he even posted on here about it!

That would be 2 years ago since I drove that one, he had offered it me unfixed for £700 cos he'd replaced the turbo and it hadn't worked. I said no..he fixed it and sold it for £1600 so your price sounds about right.

It does ride lovely and asides being rather slow its a nice old bus and the body is very tidy.

A very close inspection of the thin rubber vacuum pipes on the turbo actuator and electrovalves is the first thing to look at, the tiniest hole in them will make the turbo ineffective.
Also the 'old favourite' throttle cable adjustment., pedal full down throttle only half open.

Anyone fancy taking this on, no joy through the auction so far, the first £1000 bags it, would be a great car with some light work. Mods if you want to delete this post please do so but let me know first!

I can supply pictures and more details.

Might be an idea to put this in the For Sale & Wanted section, perhaps with a link to this thread.

You could use the new forum picture upload facility to put some of those photos in as well.

If that's allowed, I know people get a little upset about traders advertising, the car isn't mine but I dispose of all the non retail part exchanges so it's my call.

Once sorted I imagine it would easily sell on someone forecourt for over double that but our techs don't have the skill or inclinations to spend time on old French cars...

Ah, didn't realise you were a trader. Best wait for one of the staff to come along.
