Just changed the rear suspension spheres on my Xantia and when reconnecting the new anti sink sphere it started leaking gas.
This lasted for a few seconds as the pipe was inserted. I've changed spheres before but can't remember this happening.
Is this the sign of a faulty part?
Removing it from the box, I noticed it was a little oily too.
regards
James

Re: Xantia rear sink sphere
Sounds like a collapsed diaphragm. Are you sure the system was de pressurised?

Yes, both suspension spheres were off at the time I fitted the new anti sink sphere.
Re: Xantia rear sink sphere
I had to change the little pipe seal too. Special size, 3.5mm I think but strange shape.

Re: Xantia rear sink sphere
IIRC, the anti-sink sphere has a standard 3.5mm pipe entry, along with standard cylindrical rubber seal and steel pipe end.
Just a passing thought: If the rubber sleeve were not correctly positioned on the pipe end, could this allow the pipe to be inserted too far into the sphere, so that the pipe end contacted the "fully pushed down" membrane, and punctured it . . . hence the loss of gas? Just wondering.

You do remember correctly and I suspect your diagnosis is correct; I can't think of any other way that gas could be released under the circumstances.white exec wrote:IIRC, the anti-sink sphere has a standard 3.5mm pipe entry, along with standard cylindrical rubber seal and steel pipe end.

That was my initial thought too Chris...white exec wrote: Just a passing thought: If the rubber sleeve were not correctly positioned on the pipe end, could this allow the pipe to be inserted too far into the sphere, so that the pipe end contacted the "fully pushed down" membrane, and punctured it . . . hence the loss of gas? Re: Xantia rear sink sphere
No, the rubber seal was fitted correctly and pipe did not go too far inside. The diaphragm would not puncture with light pressure on the pipe. It should be nowhere near the hole. To push that far in the seal would be majorly out of position, and it gas would escape for more than 3/4 seconds
Changed it for another today using the same method and everything is back to normal with no escaping fluid or gas

Excellent Good to know it's now sorted.. The previous one must have had a manufacturing fault and let go as soon as it had a tad of disturbance...jvwykes wrote: Changed it for another today using the same method and everything is back to normal with no escaping fluid or gas
