LHM Pump

Post by PC2CV »

I plan to do the cambelt on my C5.
Reading guides for the ES9J4S engine in particular a good one on 406 i see it has good access when the ECU is removed. The Citroen guide says to move the coolant reservoir aside which i have done but the Suspension fluid reservoir is in the road a bit. Can these be removed just to give a bit better access?

Also do the V6's suffer from crankshaft pulley issues in a similar way to the 2.0 HDI?

I haven't done the belt on a C5, but having changed several ES9J4 belts on Xantias and XM, I would say that the LDS tank has to be moved to get the auxiliary belt tensioner and associated covers off.

One trick that I ave learned is that once the top engine mount is off, the engine can be jacked up and down a few inches (restrained by the lower mount), allowing easier access from above or below when working on the tensioner.

Dont jack up the engine before undoing the vertical support block of the upper mount, or you will tear the rubber.

The ES9 crank pulley does suffer from de-lamination of the rubber, but is much easier to change than the HDI, as it is held onto a flange with 4 small bolts.

If you haven't already read it, I have the Timing Belt removal and fitting procedure for the Mark I 3.0 V6 if any good - they don't mention the cooling unit or the LDS tank at all, but they do mention supporting the engine on a crane! If you want this let me know and I can email it to you.
