Unable to clear DPF error on C4 Grand Picasso

Post by Sloppysod »

Hi All,
I have just tried to reset a low additive warning on a C4 Grand Picasso and it keeps coming up "Erasing of faults failed", any ideas?.
Also, the service counter, which increases by 1 each time you clear faults has a limit of 50, what happens when you get to 50 - does it self destruct? :?

What procedure did you follow to reset it Stu? What is the VIN / Model / Year of the C4 GP?

Hi Marc, I do not have the VIN, as the vehicle belongs to 'natedawg8t6'.
'natedawg8t6', said when he checked the level, expecting to add some to his tank was about 75% full, the car has done (92,010 miles) and he bought it at about 70,000 miles and year ago.

I run a full ECU test, and found the fault, double clicked on the ECU and then it run another shorter check and displayed two faults, the one I was interested in and another (can not remember what the other was - getting old) anyway when I clicked on the 'Dustbin' icon on the bottom right corner, I went through a number of screens, where we had to enter the mileage. It then said it was erasing faults, then we followed the instructions, ignition on , ignition off and so on, then just at the end of the process it said failed, however the other fault cleared.
Could it be the sensor as fault?

I even went through the maintenance checking options, and it again said that it required topping up!!

That's why I'm not too sure which procedure - as there at least 2 I know of - one for the older cars with the fuel cap sensor that detects when fuel has been added and with the additive ECU and another newer one that doesn't have a separate additive ECU - where the BSI handles the operation.

Ive done abit of Late Night reading....

Perform a Global Test, then go into the Additive ECU with the fault code, go to Repair, then Pack Repair....

Pretty much the only option we didnt go in to Stu.

Have you refilled the tank? It would be about right for it to come on at 90k . I wouldn't trust what the engine ECU says about what's left, it never tallies with what's in the actual tank! On ours ECU still said it was half full, but additive reported it empty, and indeed when taken off, the bag was leaking and there was very little left. It's not too difficult to check, remove the cover at the OSR, disconnet the pipe and cable, then 4 toggles to drop the tank.

Again, I don't know what system you have on the car without the VIN, but did you have a look at this guide:
https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... hp?t=56651
Although for a 2002 Peugeot - this was the older procedure and the steps will be similar in Lexia. The bit about the removal of the plug from the diagnostic port will be important too. So this was the older procedure with separate additive ECU.

It's pretty much hopeless trying to get anything out of the service docs for this operation - I've looked at several models and all slightly different components, but nothing about the procedure as it is supposed to be displayed with instructions on Lexia. One thing it does say though is when removing the additive tank NOT to turn it upside down!

Is says to check the level remaining in the tank wither by the diagnostic tool or by physicaly measuring it as Richard says, then to remember the quantity remaining - so I guess you will need this at some point later in the procedure. It does say if refilling the tank completely, then to reset the additive ECU to zero. Hopeless, I know!

Hi . . Newbie to the forum . . .
Loving my C4 Grand Picasso 1.6 eHDI Auto . . .So practical for many purposes in my case . . . :-)

I have had my car serviced and MOT'd . . .and at the same time had the DPF Additive sorted . . EXCEPT, that the garage couldn't reset the DPF ECU . . !!
They tried to dirferent systems to no avail . . I tried my 'Autel' system . . to noavail . . .Says it has reset the service error, but on restarting it comes up again.
Thankfully, this forum has explained why this happens . . They needed a system . . Like the 'Lexia' interface to be able to reset the parameters . . Not just the error.
I see on the eBay site that there are 'Lexia' interface systems available for around £35 . . . Should I go down this route?
Citroen garage wants to charge £64 . . .
(If it works I might try to sell it to my local garage . . . ;-)
Let me know your thoughts . . .
Many thanks in advance . . .

The engine ECU needs to be told that the additive has been topped up and needs setting to zero.

I seriously would NOT by a cheap kit as for this price the likelihood is that the kit will not be a full chip kit and will not talk to the engine ECU. You need a Revision 'C' full chip kit (especially for a full CAN vehicle liek the C4 Picasso) and that will set you back about £100 plus you need a laptop to install and run it.

If you are thinking about owning any Citroen, Peugeot or DS Automobile vehicles, then a kit should be considered an investment. If not, then anything up to £90 at a dealer is what it will cost for a single diagnostic and reset. 2 diagnostics at a dealer and buying your own kit and a laptop will be cheaper!
