I don't think even CitroJim will get excited by a Xantia blower motor.
Nope, I confess they excite me not at all

Parcelforce think you are out in the wilds too Davie... Initially the lady at the PO counter said Monday and then said 'Hold on, due to the remote location, it'll be Tuesday...'

The Blower wasn't exactly cheap to send but way less then £20... Lots of eBay sellers charge outrageous rates for postage. I was once quoted £7.50 for a replacement vintage wireless knob to be sent to me... I told him no thanks and got a snotogram back from the seller!

I believe they do it so they still make a profit on the item even if it sells at auction for a silly, low price. That and ebay fees can swallow any profit and actually cost the seller money if things go really cheaply at auction.

It's eBay and PayPal's fault for their outrageous charges.

It's when things are advertised as free UK mainland postage then I get charged loads. I'm only 40 miles from the so called oil capitol of Europe. It's a rip off and annoys me.

Might be interesting to strip a dead PSA rad. fan & see whether it's a similar story here?
That's very likely with the rad fan motors as the one I pulled apart was full of brush dust. An incredible amount... More than you’d think could ever come from the four brushes!

Sticky brushes afflict a lot of motors in domestic appliances...

I swear these cars can hear us/read what we're typing about... On the way back from a trip out just now, in the traffic coming back intro town I noticed the temperature of the Escort rise above the point it normally does, and it carried on rising until I felt the need to switch the heater/blower on full to aid cooling.

On initial inspection, obviously the cooling fan is now inoperative and will need looking into. How ironic is it that this has happened only hours after I posted about stuck brushes!!!!! Still it's an excuse to pull the radiator out and replace the support bracket that's been waiting in the garage for a few months along with cleaning/painting the fan shroud, PAS pump and some of the other ancillaries that will be made accessible by the rad being out of the way...
Hoping it's something as simple as the brushes & not worn out, although I do have a nice valeo unit in the garage attached to the radiator from the old 1.4 206 so I could potentially swap fans if the original is dead...

Of that there is no doubt at all

Time and time again all of my cars have proved it!

Hope your Escort fan is a nice, easy fix [-o<

haha that's comforting to know, that I'm not the only one affected by this phenomenon! :D

Had a quick play earlier and the fan itself is working so, when time/weather permits, I'll investigate the switching & power supply/fuses. Still need to strip the rad out at some point though to do the tidying up and replace the support crossmember, also could do with giving the starter motor a clean &lube as they suffer horrendously with heat soak on the transverse application of the CVH lump (the exhaust downpipes run very close by) & it does get a bit lazy sometimes when things hot up under the bonnet.

The thermo-switch fitted to the rad in Citroens of that era was shockingly unreliable... If the Escort has a similar one then it'll be almost certainly the culprit...

Still, gives a good opportunity to do a bit of refurbishment so no bad thing!

Not sure what year the Escort is, but I had a MK2 (?) Orion 1.6 on an F-plate for a couple of years, and the thermo-switch was unreliable, I recall changing it two or three times. There's even a emergency connection to make the fan spin under the bonnet that I believe was standard!

Very true too. Arise Sir Jim! Only there's a problem. It worked fine for all of 1/2 hour. So I took it out again, when I start the engine it only went click and needed a start to make it go. So I sprayed in the brushes with electrical cleaner and it seems to be working now. I've taken the fan in and out more now than I've had hot dinners!

Just been using the car tonight. Drove 22 miles, fan worked perfectly, parked for an hour then drove home, fan perfect again. Fingers crossed.
