I know Citroen will provide you with the code if you can prove ownership, so I'm sure Peugeot will should you wish John. But it will be interesting to see your results from the experiment!

jgra, I think that what you're wanting to try is in part exactly what I was thinking about.
"as I have the basics in place I may try an old fob .. I cant quite see what harm it would do"
From what the ebay guidance linked in one of my earlier posts says, it's perhaps possible to get an old fob to lock / unlock. Keep us posted!

Interesting, but I couldn't quite make it through 176 posts - still a hell of a faff and not for your average guy - but thanks for posting Unc.

Re: Old Remote Key Fob into New Car?
So in a nutshell,
It is possible to use a 2nd hand remote key and get the remote part working, however, it's not easy and requires a great knowledge of electronics and equipment to read the chips in the key fob... and probably a few months of your life
I think it's safe to say that it's probably better all round just to buy a new unused remote and programme that.
Cheers.

Re: Old Remote Key Fob into New Car?
It's not that difficult.
This is the last time I'll say this but if you get the blade cut correctly and have a new ID46 chip then, with a Lexia or Diagbox, you can pair the virgin chip to the car.

Paul-R wrote:No, it can be reassigned quite easily as long as the key blade and ID46 chip are working and recognised. Are you understanding that we are talking about using a 2nd hand key to do this with?Paul-R wrote:It's not that difficult.

We know how to programme the new transponder chip and fit it to a 2nd hand key....
We know how to get a new blade cut and fit it to the 2nd hand key....
So we now have a key that opens the doors manually and will turn on and start the car.
But how do we get the plip (remote locking) part to work on this 2nd hand key?
You seem to think you can just reassign it quite easily, there's a load of posts on the forum I linked to that seem to think different.
Care to tell us how you would do it, or have you said enough on the subject
Cheers.

Re: Old Remote Key Fob into New Car?
It may depend on the version of the car, but on my 2004 Xsara Picasso (company car) I had the engine running, and then pressed and held one of the key buttons (the lock one, IIRC) until the lock triggered. For this to work the car must 'know' the key (the immobiliser circuit) to allow it to accept the central locking remote functions.

Yes.uncle buck wrote:Are you understanding that we are talking about using a 2nd hand key to do this with?
Then that's the difficult bit done.uncle buck wrote:We know how to programme the new transponder chip and fit it to a 2nd hand key....

So we now have a key that opens the doors manually and will turn on and start the car.
It's not hugely difficult and basically as Hell Razor says although you don't need the engine to be running and I think it's already been posted.uncle buck wrote: But how do we get the plip (remote locking) part to work on this 2nd hand key?

Turn the ignition on.
Press and hold the lock button for 5 to 10 seconds.
Then turn the ignition off.
Wait a few seconds and then try locking the car from outside.
Something I should have asked before (which you may already have said) is whether you have an already working plip remote? If you have and that works then it shows that all the bits on the car are working. There's always a possibility that the receiver on the car isn't working if you don't know for sure.
So, if this doesn't work then the technique is not at fault there's something wrong with the plip board or receiver on the car. The first item to suspect is the battery in the plip but after that it could be anything.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Re: Old Remote Key Fob into New Car?
I'm not doing it I'm just reading the thread I believe it's cancunia that wants to do it.
We must be talking about different remote systems or something because it's all over the internet that it can't be done using a 2nd hand key. (by 2nd hand key I mean a key that is from a different car)
Yes you can do it easily with a new unused before key.
Have a read of the posts on the forum I linked to and you'll understand where we're coming from when we say it can't be done easily.
Cheers.

thanks all, I am reading with interest as I mentioned in my post earlier..

a good point from Paul, if this system isn't happy then it may fail anyway..Something I should have asked before (which you may already have said) is whether you have an already working plip remote? Re: Old Remote Key Fob into New Car?
Sorry UB - It is a confusing thread.uncle buck wrote:I'm not doing it I'm just reading the thread I believe it's cancunia that wants to do it.
So many people have tried to use a SH key without changing the ID46 chip that this chatter has obscured the truth underneath.uncle buck wrote:We must be talking about different remote systems or something because it's all over the internet that it can't be done using a 2nd hand key. (by 2nd hand key I mean a key that is from a different car).
The difficult thing is getting hold of virgin ID46 chips. In fact for a long time we didn't know for sure that they were single use chips. You'll see some five of more years ago when I started out on this that I was learning as I was going along. I also went down several blind alleys (thinking that the ID46 chip might be useable for three reflashes for instance) so it's no wonder that it's a minefield to follow.uncle buck wrote:Have a read of the posts on the forum I linked to and you'll understand where we're coming from when we say it can't be done easily.
