citroen synergie 2.0hdi 2001 coolant questions

Post by shahidocean »

guys i recently got my coolant flushed and replaced my low coolant light had been coming on and off when the car was parked on a camber. the light came on again and i topped up about 1/2 litre of coolant with water ! what sort of coolant do i need in there i would like to add about another 1/2 litre of pure coolant. Don't know what type of coolant to buy. Also the heater is fairly cool does that mean there are airlocks in the heating matrix. does anybody know where the bleed valves are and if i can just put regular supermarket coolant in the system ? thanks in advance

I think you should stick with the same type of coolant that's already in there if possible.
Never had a problem bleeding the heater on these cars, having said that, mine have been 1.9td.

First, never use tap water - de mineralised or ionised water only (acids in the tap water can react with the metal in the car and cause electrolysis to occur. Don't mix antifreeze types unless they are the same type. If you had the Blue / green coloured Ethelene Glycol, stick to that. If you had the Red / Pink or straw coloured stuff - most likely the OAT stick with that (both types have Ethelene Glycol in, but it's the rust inhibitors in the OAT that can react with other non-similar types). Both should have rust inhibitors in, but mixing the 2 types can cause the mixture to react and turn to sludge. If you have had the entire system drained and flushed, then choose a good brand (Antigel is what Citroen use and can be got from GSF and places like that). and you shouldn't need to touch it again. Most vehicles post 2001 had a 'for life' coolant that didn't under normal circumstances need changing.

TBH Steve I've never had to change mine - except when I had the head done on my first XM (wrongly diagnosed as Head Gasket Failure by the way  ) turned out after forking out to have the head skimmed etc. only to find it leaking still, it was a split water hose that they couldn't find (non-Citroen garage). But never had to change it on any other car - they check it of course at service, but has never needed touching.

ok guys I wish I'd checked with you guys first anyway it's been done it looked rust coloured hence I thought it may be bad. they've replaced it with the same stuff kind of straw coloured as far as I can tell the garage said if I bring a bottle they'll give me some to use as a top up .

he gave me a couple of litres said it was red the stuff looks orange he said it was concentrate I put 1/2 litre straight in and filled it up to the max the coolant light is off now I could swear that the heating is slightly better. in that cooling system there is 1/2 litre of tap water. will that need replacing again or is it dilute enough to ignore
