c5 estate boot problem

Post by scas »

hi, car is a 2.2d c5 estate 01, every time i unlock the central locking-either by the fob or the key in the door, the tailgate as well as unlocking, opens. i took out the motor catchy thing in the tailgate, took it apart ,cleaned it and it made no difference. can anyone point me in a usefull direction?

I had a similar issue on my C5 estate (not that it opened every time, but sometimes, when I unlocked the car, the tailgate glass would open). It turned out that the switch (near to the wiper) had had water get in, and caused an unreliable connection. I had to replace the switch, and this resolved the fault.

This normally happens when the microswitch has stuck in, it can catch on the surround it sits in & holds the button in.

Used to happen to me as well on the 2003 C5. Every so often it would go through a phase and then after a few days would stop. When I sold the car it had been several years since the last bout. Never found the cause.

The glass opening never worked anywhere so I couldn't say whether that would open accidentally.

The c5 estate does on some models like the SX version suffer with water getting in to the tail gate switch, never had the issue on my c5 estate but the tailgate glass has never worked even tho the switch does when tested.
I think it's a bsi issue as the bsi came from a salon version it might need to be enabled.

is the microswitch contained within the boot catch-the one on the boot, or is it in the striker?
also my tailgate glass has never been able to be opened so im guessing its nothing to do with that

The non-opening of the tailgate glass is a well known problem and will most likely be caused by the microswitch underneath the wiper spigot going faulty or the electrical track on the glass itself going faulty. The fix for the latter is here http://users.skynet.be/sky83161/sven/openingc5.pdf

I don't think it's anything to do with the random opening of the tailgate itself.
