2004 C5 2.0 Hdi intemittant not starting.

Post by mistuart »

Don't know if anyone has had this happen to their C5 2.0 Hdi
Recently my car has been not starting after I have driven it, parked up and tried to start it again.
When it wont start the key fob wont open the doors, if you manually open the doors with the key the starter will turn but not start and the dash/display will be blank.
Some how traffic master woman can still work if you turn the key on and off a couple of times.
If I leave the battery disconnected for approx. 2 hours it will start and the displays are back.
It has had a brand new battery 6 months ago, I have swapped the engine fuse box off a known good car, I have removed the BSI to check for water ingress (non found) and performed a BSI reset.
Can anyone help?

Sounds like a BSI problem but it might be worth checking the battery voltage with the engine running, should be about 14.4 volts. The traffic master electric woman always works, used to drive me mad.

Bought a matching part numbers BSI, Engine ECU and Key from the same year of car.
I have fitted them all now the dash comes on as it should but the alarm sounds and the car wont start.
I can sync the key so it will open/lock the doors.
Will I need to obtain the security code to reprogram the key or should it work straight away.

Citroen can provide you with the code if you have the VIN of the donor vehicle and better, some proof of ownership as they generally won't just hand out code numbers without the confidential card. You will need the confidential code to programme the keys. - I would of said simpler to take it to the dealer to do it - but you can't start the car - as they would of been able to verify the VIN from the BSI with their diagnostic kit.

If you do manage to get the code, then you'll need a Lexia to programme ALL the keys and make sure you do all the keys in the same session - i.e. when asked, tell it the total number of keys you are programming - you can't do one at a time, otherwise it will deactivate the other key and vice versa.

I don't understand why people say if you get the matching Bsi and engine Ecu they will work no programming needed.

It could be several things. Were the cars identical in their specs? Could be software versions of the BSI or some other component it is not happy with on the car thst it hasnt been programmed for. A lexia session will help determine the issue.
