The main battery is a Bosch S5 which is about 3 years old... still in good nick as far as I can tell.
Currently... Xantia MkII 3.0 V6, C8 2.2Hdi Excl, SM 2.7 ...and waiting for some TLC a DS23 Pallas efi. Times gone by... Xantia Mk1 2.1TD, ZX 2.0 16v, BX 16v, BX 19D.

Ok 007, I'd still go with a full BSI reset - just to rule the electrical gremlins out. If you can do without the car for a bit, give it a trickle charge overnight if poss and where you can obviously leave the car unlocked. If the battery is in the passenger compartment on these like the Xsara Picasso, get easy access to it in readiness, shut all the doors and wait for 5 minutes in the vehicle for everything to go to sleep and then disconnect it. When putting it back, get the key in the ignition ready, get the battery back into location, and when everything is shut, connect it back and then wait for 5 minutes before turning the ignition on (don't start the car) - reinitialise the fob within 10 secs, turn off ignition, lock and unlock car with fob several times, then start engine and see how that goes.

I forgot to mention, that whilst sitting in the car waiting for the 5 minutes after reconnecting the battery - don't open any of the doors or switches or anything electrical.
