Pete - I have personally used SGS for strut replacements on my previous C5 MkII. They are made in the UK and are about £16 a pop inc. VAT, 2 year warranty and a 60 day no quibble returns policy - don't think you can complain at that! I fitted mine with the help of a mate and job done in under 30 minutes and what a difference!

Next day delivery is about a £5, or free for orders over £50.

They do both Pete:

Here are the tailgate ones:

You just need to get the number off the old one begining with 9and it should match a single code with SGS for a direct replacement. :-D

Here's a diagram: - then just search on the part number

I know - I was surprised too and they're not made in the Far East either, so shouldn't rust by the end of the week! :-D

I thought about changing mine but apart from the hassle of removing the headlining I couldn't find any at all when I tried even though they were listed and very expensive, so I carried a broom handle round in the car. I take it we are talking about an estate here, they are a completely different kettle of fish to the hatch.

When I was dismantling my donor C5 Estate I tried very hard to remove the struts but was unable to find out how. They worked perfectly but eventually had to go with the car to the scrappy.

Great link there, helps take away some of the trepidation and means you can be sure to have all required parts and tools ready in advance! B-)

:roll: but now I know I also need to get the tailgate glass release working first though :roll:
(if I'm going in there, I only want to do it once and will do all 4)

When the glass release stopped working I found it was due to water ingress into the switch. I found this out when I cut the two wires and found one had tarnished coper wires. It is (well, within the last year I got one) possible to get that switch, as it is used on both the C5 estates (MK1 and MK2) and the Peugeot 407SW, but it costs around £40.

Thanks Simon.
The switch on mine looks in good condition externally (no perished/torn areas etc). Will bear that in mind, but pretty sure it is the tailgate cables broken in the flexi (there are various other problems on the tailgate, e.g. wiper doesn't self park, interior light has stopped coming on when the tailgate is opened etc.)

Erm, my name is James and is (as it says under my tag) "NOT Alistair or Simon". I was named after my Great Uncle, who my Mother doted on (and he treated her like a niece who was wanted, while her parents sometimes did not notice her). There are few things that I am sensitive about but, as I also got on with Great Uncle Jim (who died when his son was only 18 months old), my name is one of these things. I can, however, have a little laugh over it (as I know nothing nasty is meant).

The following link is an example. On JPs' second post he (in error) also called me Simon;
