Hi
I have a 2007 Diesel Berlingo Multispace. For a little while not the clutch has been slipping, but only slightly, and only every now and then. We asked our local garage if the clutch needed to be replaced and they suggested leaving it for a while as it was not causing much of a problem.
Today, the gears seem to have moved position... Reverse is now straight down, where 4th would usually be. Second and fourth are now off to the left. 5th is straight up, and 1st and 3rd are off to the left. So it's like everything has moved to the left.
It can be driven, and all gears can be selected, although it's a little sticky.
So, what I want to know is what could the problem be here? Am I looking at a new gearbox and clutch?
Anyone know roughly how much the gearbox costs to be replaced?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Berlingo 2007 Diesel - Clutch / Gears problem
I would get this back into a garage sooner rather than later. There could be several reasons apart from a failing clutch - an engine mounting may have failed causing a misalignment issue, or as you say the gearbox is all to pot, so I would not hang about. The trouble with this sort of thing is the diagnosis - which could take some time - so either get it straight to a garage who can do the job in the first place - otherwise you'll end up paying for the diagnostic time in possibly taking the gearbox off just to confirm the issues. I would do a bit of ringing about first, describing your problem as accurately as possible and try to get a quote that will cover the possibilities of a gearbox and / or clutch repair / replacement up front.

Re: Berlingo 2007 Diesel - Clutch / Gears problem
It seems unlikely it's the gearbox, since it works OK - more likely a control cable has slipped or broken, or a mount has jumped off somewhere. Presume being a 2007 this is a 1.6? Cable operated box I think. Clutch change on these is not fun as the DPF / CAT has to come out to get access to one of the box mounting bolts....

Yes it's the 1.6. I have it booked in for tomorrow now. I've spoken to a few garages and they all say the same as RichardW, probably a cable. I hope so because that sounds a lot cheaper than a new gearbox.
