Xsara Picasso rain sensor

Post by mokush »

Hello Gentlemen!
Help me please...
I have a 2007 Xsara Pic and the multi sensor behind the windscreen seems to be dead. The LCD sreen says "Automatic lighting fault" and "Automatic wiper fault". I know that the previous owner changed the windscreen, so the sensor can be damaged or not fitted properly.
I think the error can be because the following reasone:
- fuse dead
- cable dead
- sensor dead
- sensor not fitted properly
Anyways, first I have to remove the cover of the sensor to examine / replace that.
Do you have any pictures and/or videos how to replace the sensor?

I also realized that a lot of cares shares the same sensor, or at least it has the same ID number: "9680327580". This goes to Xsara Pic, C4, Berlingo, Peuceot 307, 607, 407... etc.
Is it really the same? Can I use a sensor with this ID in my Pic or these are different? :?:

Thank you!

Well, first, may I welcome you to the Forum.

If you can, I would suggest that you get a Lexia connected up to your Pic, and see what it says. It should give you a much clearer indication of where the fault lies (although sometimes it can be a bit of an art working out what it means). I cannot point you in the direction of a local Forum member with a Lexia; sorry about that. A generic code reader probably will not give much meaningful information.

The Automatic lighting is activated with a long press on the end of the left hand indicator stalk. A bong and / and a message "headlamp lighting active" on the dashboard will indicate if it is active or not.

Then test the function by starting the engine and then covering the sensor with some cardboard and seeing it the headlamps lights activate.

As for the auto wipe function, put the stalk into position I or AUTO. A single wipe will confirm auto wiping is active.

Test this by squirting water over the sensor and see if the wipers start activating.

If there are issues, it may be either the sensor or the Comms unit. Undertake a global test and post up any codes you get.

Ok so I think you mean the message flashes a few times. So there may be a fault code logged, if you have access to a diagnostic tool (preferably a Lexia); that may help.

Without this it will be guesswork, as it could be Comms Unit related, rain / brightness sensor, wiring or a fuse box issue....

Can you pop your VIN up for me if you haven’t already, and I’ll see what I have.

The sensor is part number 6405Y5, number 15 on the diagram: currently priced at £284.23 inc. VAT at the dealer.

I haven't seen many on the bay of evil so maybe your best bet is to try a scrappy. There was only one part number for these, so that helps narrow it down a bit.

Sometimes when the windscreen is replaced, the fitter don't realise how expensive or sensitive these things are and leave them dangling with weight on the ribbon cables and this can damage them.

It happened to me after I had my C5 X7 windscreen replaced - but knowing of the issues, I rang the company up and demanded they cough up the cost of the sensor and that I would refit it myself. They did - covered under their insurance. Once the sensor is removed, the gel can also become cloudy and contaminated that also can affect the light getting through for accurate readings and such. I had to have the guy back to test it first - and I told him that putting a bucket of water over it is not the same as it working with light rain - as these have at least 16 speed settings! Anyway job done, but an expensive little thing to change.

Hi Marc,Thank you.
its only annoying for a few seconds on startup,Think I Will Leave Well Alone.
Thought I had Found it in LEXIA and turned it off,may have missed the button to sort of save it..
Do you have colour and details please via PM,if you wouldn t mind.
Is there a MODEL NUMBER For this car or Just a Name.??.
I do have 2 mates who run a scrappy, they have had loads in the last few months, may ask them to keep their eye up for one for me,just in case it causes problems down the line.
if it stays a bit warmer may go and play on the drive and see if it was that in the LEXIA, And look again for the item to turn it off, I m not that bothered about it,I know when its getting dusk or its raining hard.lol.
