1.6 HDI Glow Plug operation?

Post by uncle buck »

Hi,
I'm interested to find out what controls the 3 minute post starting heat cycle on this engine, does anyone know?

Starting the engine from cold (12 degrees C) :
when you turn the ignition on there is no glow plug pre heat operation, but once the engine is started the plugs come on and stay on for 3 minutes, this is obviously a timed period but what controls this time period, is there a timer relay somewhere ?

If the engine is warm there is no 3 minute post heat cycle, I assume this is signalled by the coolant temperature sensor?

Cheers.

I imagine it's all controlled by the engine ECU.

Yeah it probably is ECU controlled these days.

I was interested as I fancied experimenting with the 3 minute post heat cycle which would have been easy if the time was controlled via a timer relay.
