Thank you all for the information given. I have been on my hands and knee's under the drivers side footwell and there is no wiring that could have been left behind IF the footwell lights had been removed but what is missing is the footwell cover panel directly above the drivers feet. Can any one help with a diagram/photo of this part so has I can order one and while I am at it order the footwell lights as well.

I agree with vborovic, the car was or is listed as having them but with no wires anywhere near there location I don't think they were fitted. I wonder if when it started it's life as a fleet car (one owner with 70k )it was omitted,I don't know.?

Which Panel? If it's the ambient / welcome lighting strips, your car won't have had these - Vborovic did a big retro fit of the internal LEDs for the door handles and ambient lighting strips throughout his tourer - not for the faint hearted!
I can't link to the topic, as he has removed it.

Hi Guy's
It's the panel about 8inch x 12inch that covers all the gubins under the dash,I have given up on the footwell lights for now but I bet without that panel ( I can see the bulkhead ) I am getting a bit of extra noise from the engine compartment .

Went to my local Citroen to price up the missing panel under the drivers side dashboard, £150.00 so I will live without it for the time being .

Hey, have already done that, no one seem's to know what I am on about. I have ordered the three clip's so will cut a piece of hardboard and put some sound proof on it and fit that up there. Well I will give it a try. I wonder if I put some footwell lights in while I am at it where I would get the power from to make them work. Any idea's guy's???????

I have been musing on that too. I liked them in my Volvo many years ago and have often thought of fitting them to subsequent cars but no action talen.
I think the supply for the glovebox light, before the switch, would be adequate and reachable and a few LEDs wouldn't overload it.

For the rear, the heated seats power supply should also be easy enough to tap in to.

I think the glove box light may be a permanent feed - switched off when the glovebox closes via a switch, which would likely mean the footwell lighting would be permanently on instead of being controlled by the interior lighting settings, but I'll have to check the X7 wiring.

Ok, so just been out to check the car (X7 with ambient lighting) and this is what I've determined:
Glovebox: light switched on and off via contact switch when the glovebox is opened and closed BUT, as Steve says, only when main lights are switched on (not sidelights alone). The glovebox light power is controlled by the BSI.
LED Ambient lighting running under the dashboard on both sides: only activated when main lights are on.
LED Roof Ambient lighting activates when sidelights are on or main lights.
LED door lighting in handles activates with main lights
Footwell lights only come on when door opened (in conjunction with interior lights) and fade out when engine started / or after timeout, again controlled by the BSI.

So it looks like unless you can locate the proper wiring loom, a feed from the glovebox light to the newly fitted footwell lights would likely be on every time the main headlights were on - could be distracting at night though.

The Volvo lights were on when the main lights were on (not the DRLs) and were not distracting, just a pleasant glow enough to enable retrieving dropped items.

I've also just had a look at the wiring diagrams and there is no discernible difference between my car and Renegade's - so that really isn't helpful in determining what wiring is and what isn't in the car. The service info just shows the diagrams, but doesn't list part numbers for the kit not available on Renegade's trim level like the ambient lighting control units. I think I remember when another member did this mod he had to make new wiring for the door LED lighting as it wasn't there - so with regard to the footwell lights - it's a matter of having to physically look to check I think.
