Haha true but sometimes that's what needs to be done. It was a combined effort of European owners clubs. For the existing cars Kia did a software update. Mine was always a bit gutless and getting a move on entailed lots of gearstick stirring!

It's all down to finding a person who will drive it forward when it comes down to it. We can all complain, but coordinating the effort takes a lot of time and grief - which a lot of people just can't be bothered with. Fair play to those that get a result.

Well, a partial success maybe. A shame that the owners of all those 1.4 crdi Vengas still have a lemon on their hands.

I don't suppose that Kia offered to buy them back or give some compensation?

FYI, my X7 doesn't appear to have any rack problem with 105,000 miles on the clock. I hope it is NOT cursed now.

And yet in your part of the country one would expect salt and water to have ruined it by now.
You must be doing something right.

I do clean the car regularly during winter because of the salt issues but I will inspect the pinion when I do the next oil change.

It would be interesting to see a picture comparison of the original and new replacement racks as 'Filberton' mentions in his post, so we could identify which one our cars have. I say this as normally if you had the rack replaced by Citroen you would have an invoice with the part number and date - but if it was done under warranty, like mine, you don't get an invoice - although I suspect if I asked, they may well print me off a service / repair history for a small charge. I can't remember what year your car is Kenny - so maybe it already has the new rack from factory?

Is there a definite date or VIN that has the upgraded rack? Does this rack have a different part number to the earlier one? Presumably it must also supersede and replace the earlier rack by definition.

These are the numbers I posted earlier in the thread Paul:
4001 60 Now RP 98 013 814 80 (2008 2.2)
4001 W3 Now RP 98 014 154 80 Jan 2011 (2.0 163)
4001 65 Now RP 98 014 154 80 Mar 2008 (2.0 138)

As there are no RPO dates from and to, I would assume that they are no longer supplying the faulty design regardless of date and have instead done a wholesale replacement. So hopefully, anyone ordering a replacement from Citroen will be getting a new redesigned part and not an exchanged faulty by design model!

I wouldn't be sure of what I was getting from a third party exchange supplier though - they may just recycle the faultily designed ones - which inevitably would fail again.....

So, hopefully the expense of a new genuine rack was worth it as I guess I'll have the improved design.
