C5 VTR+

Post by jasperuk »

Hi

Been looking for a new car and the C5 took my eye however the wife was has a habit of buying cars that have an AUX socket to plug the iPad into to use spotify.

I noticed on an older C5 VTR+ the radio had the option on the source button for AUX2 which looked like a phono headphone socket on the display but we couldn't find the headphone socket.

Can anyone tell me where the socket is located ????

Hi Gavin, welcome to the Forum.

If your car has the option, it will be in the passenger glove box, usually at the top. There are 3 RCA jack type plugs. Unfortunately, there is very limited control for this source - i.e. you probably won't be able to skip tracks back and forward etc. Ideally, it can be used for video playback as a source like a Camcorder , games console output etc. It will work with a video and audio input - but like I said the control isn't great - but if you are the passenger and are using the iPad for control then it should be fine.

The ones in the glovebox are female Audio Left, Right and Video. That adapter should do fine. It will be similar to the picture below - although this has been fitted as an after market option and will be slightly different for the C5 Factory Fit:

I'll nip out and take a picture of the Aux in my X7 for you.

Normally equipment (be it vehicle or audio related) uses sockets, as they are normally more robust and less prone to damage. However, what you might also want to consider is something like the following item (but make sure it is compatible with the C5 you are looking at);

Its a shame its 20 miles away and about 200 quid more than i wanted to pay but i suppose i can go back take another look and haggle.

I presume if its showing as a source input on the car stereo it must be in place ?

If you are considering one, then I would do a bit of research first. The C5 X7 comes with several Head Units / Audio systems. The Head Units may have options that are not present on the car - so don't use that solely as a guide. Some will have Bluetooth for your phone and others will have Bluetooth music streaming on later models - but you really need to research them first if this is important to you - Especially as the Head Units are also used to configure some of the options on the car, so replacing with an aftermarket option is doable, but can be problematic.

The VTR+ should have the MyWay system installed and this has phone bluethooth, but not audio streaming. It should have the Aux sockets in the glovebox though, the 7" colour screen and Navigation.

The EMyWay should have the Bluetooth Audio Streaming - which was a later replacement.

Original post doesn't mention year, assuming this is a VTR+ 111 (X7) - I know nothing about the earlier ones, was there a VTR+ one of them? - VTR+ Nav has a Myway, some were nav free. Maps are on an SD card middle of unit, make sure its there. Mine (a 2010) has only 2 RCA sockets, in the glovebox as you say, hard to see unless you bend down very low. It has no video input. I have a fairly long RCA lead, runs from the glovebox underthe hinge, tucked under the plastic along the side of the central console and up into the pocket on the back of the passenger seat with a 3.5mm stereo jack attached. That way, any passenger can get at it and I can put my phone on the passenger seat if I am alone. Its a journey of discovery though the menu to connect, but works fine. You have no control at all of the device, it just uses the headphone output. If traffic or phone call cuts in, it doesn't pause. Works OK though.

My bluetooth works fine and reliably for phone but won't stream music, but oddly the nav on my windows phone comes through the car speakers but I think that's cortana (windows siri) being very clever and finding the bluetooth.

I'm not sure the changes (e.g. streaming, video input etc) exactly matched any model years, so if its important to you you do need to see for yourself.

It's a fine vehicle for long journeys. In almost 80k miles I have had just 2 problems, 3rd brake light which I fixed and window winder cable. Open and close the front windows before you buy - its a common problem and they normally fail "up". Expensive to get a dealer to do, inexpensive but time consuming to do it yourself.

I know that my C5 is a Mk1 VTR. I do not know if the facelift had a VTR+.

That description on the website means nothing VB, they rarely get the specs right at the best of times.

For the UK 2009 VTR+NAV models had the Myway (not on the NAV)
For the earlier 2008 VTR+ UK Models it was the standard RDS stereo radio/MP3 compatible CD player with bi-tuner

Gavin - if you want to check specifically you can always PM the VIN of the prospective car and we can see what system it should have as originally fitted.

The X7 is just Citroen's internal model code name for this particular C5 model. We often use it to distinguish between the Mark I and Mark II or 'Facelift' model. The C5 X7 is also called the Mark III and generally refers to models from 2008 on although they started production late 2007.

Have a look here for the difference on the Estates - first is a Mk1, second is a Mk II or facelift Mark I and lastly the Mk III or X7.
Although the MKII is similar to the MKI, they do have different front and rear end designs and revised interiors, so enough to make people refer to them as a MK II or facelift, whereas the MKIII is a completely different vehicle.

As for the interior lighting, can you be a bit more specific? The dashboard lights (the speedo and instruments) tend to be Orange on all the cars, along with the centre console display unless you have a 7" display screen which will be the colour selected from the configuration menu.
