Hello,
I had a problem with the clutch bearing, and after replacing the clutch bearing, the car wont star.
I think it might be related to some sort of short when reattaching the battery cables. The ECU touched (accidentally) one of the leads and it shorted an spargs and all.
After that the car started once, after lots of tries and ran normally. I did shut it down after 20 seconds or so. I put the wheels back on and gave it another try thinking it would star fine, but I was wrong. It never did again. I read the ECU codes and have 4:
P0104
P0243
P1589
P0341
I'm thinking the ECU is throwing this codes because it got "fried" with that short.
Any ideas? Can I just replace the ECU with a used unit? Is it just plug and play?
Regards,
Daniel

Your problem might be similar to the one described here: http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... hp?t=53857
The engine ECU is coded the the BSI (etc), so you cant just fit a used one, it needs to be new, or reconditioned by an expert. You can change the complete set of ECUs (and keys), but that may have other side-effects.

Hi Xantia_V6,
Luckily, or not, I just found an ECU Specialist, that has came across various similar cases to mine that has one in stock.
I just had to tell him the car and he immediately asked if it had had some kind of clutch work done. Hw told me it was very, very common to happen.
He just needs the old one to reprogram the new, and about 45 minutes latter I have a working ECU. It has a 1 year warranty and costs 500€.
Is it a good deal?

Daniel

Hi,
Additionally, does anyone have the correct way (diagram or something) of the battery connections in the engine bay?

Daniel

Before buying a new ECU, you might try the trick of connecting an extra earth wire to the case of the ECU. It sometimes works, and costs nothing.
Re: Xsara Picasso 1.6 HDI - Crank but no start
I'll try it, thanks.
Regarding the correct connections for the leads coming from the battery to the engine bay? Any thoughts?

Daniel

Sorry, I have never actually seen under the bonnet of one of those, so would only be guessing. If the engine ran briefly, then I think that the connections are probably in the right place.dtm wrote:I'll try it, thanks.

BTW, http://bba-reman.com might be a little cheaper for repairing your ECU if necessary
Re: Xsara Picasso 1.6 HDI - Crank but no start
Hi,
It appears they don't have the ECU model for my Picasso (0 281 011 802).
Anyway, I was able to talk to another ECU specialist that before trowing away my ECU will analise it and see if it is salvageable.
If not, a reconditioned unit and programming will cost 370€ taxed. It's cheaper that the previous one, but since they don't have any unit in stock, if I need a new one I will have to wait 7 business days. I'm going to meet with him today and and him the ECU for analises. He told me he will have a diagnosis Wednesday at the latest.
Here's hopping it can be fixed.

Have you tried the extra earth (ground) wire trick yet?

Yes,
I tried it at lunch. Didn't work, unfortunately

Hi,
Just a quick update. Yesterday I went to meet with an ECU specialist.
He opened the ECU in front of me, and the burned smell was immediate. He still tried to find grounds but apart from a couple around the unit it was beyond salvageable.
I'm going to have to wait for a reconditioned unit. Will update as progress is made.

Daniel
