Bosch pump fast idle clamp

Post by chinkostu »

Having fettled the wastegate and fuelling on the Xantia the cold (fast) idle was rediculously high. Managed to loosen both of the idle screws off and get it to a decent level, but i undid the clamp on the waxstats cable in order to check the low (warm) idle was right. sounds great until i couldn't tighten the locknut up on the idle screw itself, so i slid the cable out of the clamp as with it moved out of the way i could reach the locknut with a tiny spanner and do it up!

all good, until the clamp that sits on the rocker arm then flung itself under the pump and behind the alternator when trying to refit the cable :(

are these easily available? i can see them on servicebox but they don't look anything like the one that was on mine!

Stu, I can't picture it at all..

Can you take and show us any pictures of the offending area please?

Luck would have it Jim i've just got back from the scrappy, who were completely devoid of bosch equipped diesels, but found something similar on a 2.5 Relay of all things!

I'll try and get a picture for you!

Excellent Stu :D

Yes please as I remain very curious... Always have a deep interest in diesels even though I no longer run one now...

I don't think my explaination helped! it's just a small piece that has a grub screw on, that appears to be part of the idle rocker arm on the pump itself. however its a seperate piece altogether (no idea why? maybe its some manufacturers have different cable types?) so chances are mine was a previous replacement as it looks nothing at all like the one i've found, however the one I have now looks like the servicebox images!

I've got pics below if they work properly! apologies for the mess, you don't notice the grot until you go digging around!

the offending area the old piece fell down. (a magnet probably won't help as its stuck between the block and mount for the pump)

this is what I was on about (note the moulded piece that the cable passes through with the screw on top, mine fell into the abyss!)

on the top right of this image (phone was at a funky angle!) you can see how close the cable comes to the idle screw, so to get a decent hold on the nut you need to get the cable out of the way

Ahh yes, now I know exactly Stu :D Illustrated beautifully!

In an emergency the metal inside of a 'Choc Block' electrical joining strip can be used as a substitute... Those, having two screws, can sometimes act as a better device than the original...

Never even considered one of them! I was gonna use a crimp like the ones you find on bike cables!
