The knackered one is off, but what a ball ache! Although it's been a while since we started, due to my health and my mates work we have had like 3 afternoons getting the axle off. Every nut and bolt has fought us, both hubs didn't want to come off and of course doing all this lying on your back under a manky old van with the crap falling on to your face. Not been nice. Now on hold again untill the weekend when Malky is off to attempt attaching the new axle. At least all parts are clean now, no more s**t falling down into our eyes.

Not doing stuff like this again. It seemed a good idea, buy a seriously cheap motor that needs work so that i end up with a cheap motor. My days of fettling is now going to get limited to oil changes and discs and pads. And only my own motor, no one else's. I'm also seriously considering selling the activa, I would swap it for a v6 auto c5, I'm not particularly bonding with the activa so I think after it has the welding done and a fresh mot I will put it up for sale to see what happens.

The Activa has been nothing but hassle for a run around a few bends in the road. Hassle to pick up, then the clutch, now the leaks etc etc. It was never a good idea in the first place. Give yourself a bit of rest and peace Davie.

Oh I know that feeling all too well, the crap in the eyes. At least you've not got petrol in the face that stings like all hell just landed on your skin and had a housewarming party, had that once draining the stale fuel out of a Supra #-o would take all the dried road crap in the land over that again!

Going to know exactly how you feel soon enough too as I'm either going to rebuild the beam on the HDi 206 or, depending on how it looks on closer inspection, swapping the whole beam off the petrol car. At least the latter ought to be reasonably easy I think, as the HDi is super clean underneath & I'm yet to find a stubborn bolt in any of the work I've done on it & the petrol car has had the beam replaced in the last few years so hoping it'll be a job that smiles favourably on me given your above advice Davie. If not then I'm soon to feel your pain (after the clutch job and service have softened me up first, that is)

Best of luck with the refitting, here's hoping it goes as smoothly as it should for you.
