Rear right window won't close

Post by Cutac »

Hello,
I'm new here so excuse me if I make some errors :)

I've got a rather big problem with my c4(2011) and I hope someone here will have an answer.
So, today I got in my car as usual and opened all four windows(pushed all buttons all the way so they opened automatically), but when I attempted closing them, they all closed but the rear right. I can't say if it made any noises because car was moving(maybe 50 kph). But what I'm sure is that anti-pinch has failed. Why? When I pull the button either all the way or just hold it, window starts going up and after maybe 5 cm it reacts as it hit an obstacle and goes back down again.
I can get it up by moving it up bit by bit until it passes point where it detects an obstacle. After that point everything's all right.
I tried reinitialization, but it doesn't work because I can't pull the button until it gets up because it doesn't get up.

Any way to reset anti-pinch system?

And one more problem. I took off door panel, but I can't get it back up again because that small plastic triangle(where rear window is cut vertically) is in my way. Any way to remove that triangle?

Thanks :)

You should just be able to gently lift the button until it starts to raise the window - but not a hard pull. As it stops, release and another gentle pull until it stops again. Keep doing this until it reaches the top. When it has reached the top, fully lift the button until you hear a very faint noise / click from the door. That has then reinitialised the anti-pinch. AS for the plastic triangle - I'm not sure whatn you are referring to - maybe you can link to a photo so we can see what you mean.

Thanks for that, but I can't do so because it doesn't stop at certain point, it just reverses. And keeps doing that at the same point just like it's hitting an obstacle.

I'll record it tomorrow and make a few pictures :)

Ok, what you can try is putting some spray lube, like silicon grease spray (not WD40) down each side of the window channel runners. Lower the window and spray another load down, raise the windows up and down a few times as best you can. Don't be afraid to use lots of spray. This will allow some of the spray to get onto the regulator wires and lubricate those. See if that helps after you've left it for a while. If is is still getting stuck in the same position - does the motor sound as if it is struggling at the same position each time?

You can always try the BSI reset procedure that usually sorts out lots of gremlins with cars with a BSI. Follow it without skipping any parts - the timings are minimums - don't open doors, windows or operate any equipment whilst perfroming the procedure. This will reset the BSI and all the ECUs and may cure your problem. If not let us know.
  • Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off.
  • Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition.
  • Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait at least a minute.
  • Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further minute (do not open doors).
  • Switch on the side lights through the driver's window.
  • Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality.
  • Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds.
  • Remove key open & close door test central locking system.
  • Start the engine and complete the system's check.
  • Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect operation of many BSI related items.

Right, I'll try to lube it as much as I can.
I tried to listen if motor was struggling but I can't decide. It's loud and sounds different but that's because door trim is taken off.
Now I'll be a bit tiring, but I have a few questions about reset.
First, I've read on some forum that I can remove battery terminal for 20 seconds and then perform reinitialization of the window. http://www.citroenpicasso.org.uk/picass ... rs-window/ to be precise.

If that's not true, I'll do it your way. Questions: Side beam is the first click of the selector?
Is there any setting up I'm going to be doing apart from key sync and usual settings? Will the window mechanism be reset?

[-X The BSI reset is for the BSI which is the main controller for all the other ECUs on the car, including the electric window ECU. This reset won't do any harm, just follow the instructions. You won't need to do any other procedure, except reset the time on the radio. This procedure is ackowledged as the correct one for helping to solve lots of electrical gremlins.

PS that link is not the correct complete procedure. Following the one I have shown you will ensure all the cars ECUs have gone into sleep mode, that is why you don't open the doors or the windows when you start the procedure. The car computer ECUs needto go into sleep mode. This ensures that they are probably shut down. Then when you reconnect the battery you wait for all the ECUs to reinitialise before you open any of the doors or the windows. As I said before once you complete the procedure you just need to reset the time on the radio reinitialise the keys as per the procedure and then reset the anti-pinch devices for each of the windows which you already know how to do.

I think your window is likely to be popping out of its track when at the bottom, trying to raise it it comes against the anti pich and goes back down.

You need to get inside the trim and see if the bottom screw of the track has dropped out or if the track has somehow come apart.

Usually you can get the window to close by pulling the top of the glass forward so that it pops back in the track.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

Yes, Gibbo's right - that's another possibility - if it's lifting out the riser at an angle it will 'wedge' causing the anti pinch to kick in - so as you have the door card off at the moment, you should be able to hear if the motor is meeting resistance when it hits the spot where it reverses.

Here's a diagram to help you:

10 are the 2 clips that the glass sits into - so check these are gripping tightly and that the glass is sitting flush in the clips.

Guys, thanks for your tips.
Unfortunately, I won't be doing any of that today as I have a business meeting so I won't be home today nor tomorrow.
Here are two videos of my problem.
Note: When window is lowered automatically, it goes all the way down, it doesn't have that small amount of travel left.

Ok, looking at those videos, it seems quite fast going up and down - so try the BSI reset procedure first as that is the easiest and cheapest option! Let us know how you get on. 8-)

Hi cutac I had that problem with my c5 tried all those videos nothing worked I even switched out switch modules I did however fix it in the end I had to disconnect the loom at the hinge just as the window reached the top of travel pull it up the rest of the way with the palms of your hand and leave it for a few minutes and then reconnect it.

Hey guys, I did it :D
I tried disconnecting the loom but couldn't, I just managed to cut my fingers.
Then, just before disconnecting the battery, I started rocking opened window up and down and back and forth and it did the trick. A bit yobo-ish but works :D
Now it works perfectly.

Thanks again for your suggestions!
