At £21.88 for each of those blades I think I'll stick with what I've got. :o

A damn good clean with meths as mentioned, plus finding the oldest most worn out wiper arms with play in the pivots is looking like the key to smooth quiet wipers haha. The diesel 206 has a worn out driver's wiper arm and apart from the noise of the linkage squeaking it's probably the single best wiper on all our cars!

If you can put up with what you've got, so be it. That said I don't know why the price in the UK is that high. I paid less than £30 for a set of 2 blades here in Japan (4,000 yen).

It's probably the wiper sizes - they don't seem to do one for the X7 - only the passenger side - the C5 X7 is a 28" blade for the Driver's side. with the XM being only 22". That, and the import duty and the VAT and shipping costs probably!

Actually they do. The IWS70.

Oh, wait a minute, by "they" you probably mean the UK supplier :?:

According to my model and year only the passenger side is listed and is WUK55E. So either their database is wrong or they haven't updated it.

I've gone through every C5 option and combo for every year and that code isn't listed on any coming up for the C5, at least not on the UK site.

Edit: Yes UK site, won't be cost effective to ship from elsewhere. The clue maybe in the code number W UK 55E for U.K.

I found this https://www.amazon.co.uk/PIAA-Silicone- ... B00UZHRJ84 but currently unavailable.
And then there's ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/PIAA-Silicone-W ... 1503891675 but expensive.

Yep, that's what I meant with the import duties, VAT and shipping. I'll stick to Citroen wipers, they are the best I've had to date, thanks. In any case, that second listing is showing as 2 x 28" in the kit, which can't be right as the passenger side is smaller!

Marc,

Also give Toyota blades a whirl - they are made by Denso - and available in all lengths, and refills available.
Have them on XM, and v.g.

Cheers Chris, C5 is ok for the moment, just the C3 ones coming up for a change now which has Simon's juddering beaten hands down! The ones on the C3 currently are the Bosch retrofit at blades and bloody useless to say the least. Worse than Chinese water torture!

Hi Chaps,

The sqwarking wiper blades seems to have abated after I had another go at twisting them - they are very hard to twist, I ended up using two adjustable spanners to hold and twist it. There is still a little bit of shuddering on plain water but not with screen wash.

However I now have another serious problem - ever since I put Rain X in as the screen wash I've been having trouble with "smearing" and "fogging" of the outside of the window - under normal mild conditions every time the wiper wipes it leaves a fog like smear that fades away after a second.

In cold conditions like 2 degrees this morning it was so bad I could barely see out the window through a fog like haze - with the fog on the outside of the window. I tried cleaning the outside of the window and got a lot of black stuff on my cleaning cloth (rubber from the wiper blades I assume) but that did not help at all.

When the glass is this cold it is just a haze, every time the wiper wipes it roughly 50% clears the haze (which is enough to see through) but the haze returns in about 2 seconds! Wiping the inside of the window shows the haze is definitely on the outside.

Any suggestions as to why Rain-X is doing this ? I have never had such serious haze on the outside of a window before and it was not doing this until I added the Rain-X in an attempt to stop the sqwarking/shuddering. Once the heater warms the window up sufficiently the haze goes away just like fog on the inside of the window - I just don't understand how it could be on the outside and the wipers can only wipe some of it away for a second or so then you literally see it reappear before your eyes. :?

Erm, I didn't know that Rain-X came with an in-wash version. I always use a proper glass cleaner to get the outside of the windscreen spotlessly clean, and then I apply Rain-X in a polishing style, leave it for 10 - 20 minutes, and polish off the residue. If I have time I might do a second coating. That works for me.

I've never been able to get on with Rain-X and found it seems to leave a greasy deposit. I find getting the screen spotlessly clean inside and out using solvent works well for me...

Said it before, I never use it on the screen, only rear and sides.

Yes, you can get fog like micro droplets in the morning, wiped off with a small squeegee.

I find the advantage is that it keeps the glass clear of dirt etc as it has a self cleaning action when moving.
