Citroen c3 drivers window problem!

Post by 3ccitroen »

Hi, I'm new to the forum, thanks in advance to anyone who can help me. Been pulling my hair out lately trying to fix a c3 drivers electric window problem. The window only wants to wind up regardless how you touch the switch (up or down) so once it's up it stays there. The only way to release it is to disconnect the motor and drop the window, then the process starts all over again. I have tried changing the switches over, bought a second hand window unit mechanism complete which works fine on the passenger door (tested) but just winds up when installed in the drivers door. Fuse is fine and I tried changing the circuit board near the motor but this made no difference. I am just a weekend diy dabbler who used to be able to fix a 70's Escort but find it frustrating with these modern cars. Could someone on here please explain in laymans terms what the problem might be or even better actually is and how to fix it? Regards all.

Well, first of all, welcome to the Forum.

Next, the best thing to do is to get a Lexia system connected up, so as you can see what is happening to the car. It is possible that something has glitched. Saying that, you could also do what is known as a BSi reset, as this can flush out glitches (but any real problems would remain). Here are the links to both;

BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure

With relationship to the BSi reset, consider the PC. When you shut it down, it clears out any temporary files (and other such stuff), and when it starts up again it starts from fresh. However, modern day cars do not completely shut down when you turn off the ignition; it more goes into standby (so any glitches are still in memory, and come back into play when you start the car up again). The BSi reset completely shuts down the electronics.

You can try the BSI reset first, but this sounds very much like a broken wire.

Do you have the Driver's sequential switch on your model (Exclusive usually)? There are separate wires - one for the 'UP' function and another for the 'DOWN' function, going from the Driver's electric window unit / motor to the electric window switch near the gearbox.
If you PM your VIN, I can check the speciific model wiring, but on the Mark 2 Exclusive (2007) the wire for the 'DOWN' operation is marked 6020 along the sleeve and the wire for 'UP' is marked 6010. So in this case if the window won't go down, it is likely to be 6020 that could be broken somewhere along the path from the switch to the window motor control unit. The likely and common place for it to break is near the plastic wiring tube protector from the door hinge side through to the door and will be encased in a protective plastic sheath, as per part 15 in the diagram below:
C3 Harness Protector.png
I would start there and trace back / forwards for a break - it's the weakest part due to the door movement and the strain on the wires.
Edit: Just had a look at another earlier C3 and regardless off the sequential (on-touch) operation, the wiring codes are the same. :)
